Job Description:
Liabilities Manager is crucial for our organization due to several key responsibilities and challenges that this role entails. The Liabilities Manager will be responsible for booking and monitoring our largest cost elements, including Payroll and Purchase Orders (POs), ensuring that all journals are reviewed and postings are accurate and true . This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of our financial records and providing commercial insights that empower business groups to make informed decisions .
Additionally, the Liabilities Manager will oversee a team of four full-time colleagues and two contractors, ensuring their training is successful and that journal conversion and accuracy are maintained during transitions . This role is particularly critical for the Darwin-specific project, which involves shutting down SAP and Intacct systems and embracing the new PO system in X3, as well as loading ADP Payroll data into X3 and reviewing new reports for accuracy .

Summary of role
This role leads the Record to Report (R2R) Liabilities Team, ensuring timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting while maintaining strong governance and compliance with IFRS standards. It’s about building a high-performing team, driving process improvements, and fostering strong relationships across finance and the wider business.
What I will be doing
You’ll oversee the Liability Team R2R activities, focusing on balance sheet accuracy, financial controls, and risk management. This includes reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial trends, ensuring everything is reported on time and to a high standard. You’ll manage external and internal audits, statutory reporting, and the application of accounting standards, providing clear insight and support to business partners.
You’ll also lead and develop a talented team, creating a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement. Working as part of the wider finance organization, you’ll streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and contribute to key finance initiatives that support Sage’s strategic goals.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with a strong understanding of IFRS or GAAP, risk controls, and balance sheet governance. You should be confident managing people, building strong relationships, and driving change across teams. A passion for continuous improvement, excellent communication skills, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving are essential. If you’re motivated by developing others, improving processes, and delivering accurate, high-quality financial reporting, this role is for you. Must hold full CPA.
