Overview
This position plays a key role in advancing Carollo Engineers' mission to help water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities prepare for and adapt to evolving climate and hazard risks. As part of Carollo’s Resilience and Sustainability Technical Practice, this position integrates engineering, planning, and climate science to strengthen the resilience of critical water infrastructure and the communities they serve. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Carollo to assess vulnerabilities, develop adaptation and mitigation strategies, and implement practical, science-based solutions that address both near-term risks and long-term sustainability challenges. The position is ideal for professionals who are passionate about applying technical and analytical skills to solve complex environmental and infrastructure problems, bridging the gap between engineering and forward-looking resilience planning. This position offers opportunities to work on high-profile projects throughout North America, contribute to national thought leadership in climate adaptation and resilience management, and grow within a practice that is shaping how the water sector responds to the challenges of climate change, extreme events, and system interdependencies.
Responsibilities
+ Conducting climate change vulnerability and risk assessments for water and wastewater infrastructure.
+ Developing and implementing resilience plans for various cities and water agencies.
+ Analyzing climate change impacts on water supplies (surface water, groundwater, and imported water) and demands.
+ Recommending and evaluating adaptation measures to increase the resilience of vulnerable facilities.
+ Developing climate change adaptation frameworks for integrated water management plans.
+ Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables to meet our client’s needs.
+ Staying current with the latest climate science, planning requirements, and available modeling resources.
+ Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective and innovative solutions.
+ Contributing to the growth of the firm’s Resilience and Sustainability practice.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, water resources, environmental planning, climate science, or a related field.
+ Additional training or coursework in climate change adaptation, resilience planning, or a related field is an added benefit.
+ 0-4 years of professional experience in the water and/or wastewater industry.
+ Demonstrated experience in climate change vulnerability assessments and resilience planning.
+ Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Experience in climate change adaptation and resilience, including data collection and analysis, research and reporting, and policy analysis.
+ Experience with risk and vulnerability assessment methodologies.
+ Knowledge of publicly available climate data sources and databases.
+ Ability to collect, compile, analyze, and manage large, quantitative and qualitative datasets.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
+ Ability to adapt and work independently or as part of a team on multiple priority projects and deadlines and manage time effectively.
+ Proactive communicator, both internally and externally, working effectively with junior and senior project staff.
+ Strong professional abilities, including the ability to perform complex tasks, relate to others, make evaluations and decisions, accept responsibility, express ideas, and work within schedule and budget constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in civil engineering, sustainability, water resources, or a related field.
+ Direct experience in resilience and planning in addition to engineering.
+ Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred.
Pay Range
$75,000 to $85,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
