    Duties Description Under the general supervision of the Golf Course Manager 2, SG-18, the incumbent will plan, assign tasks, and assist with the overall supervision and administration of the facility as well as perform maintenance and operational duties. Duties include, but not be limited to:• Plans, schedules, and supervises daily maintenance and repair work on greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs, and landscaping.• Oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and drainage systems.• Trains and directs grounds maintenance crews in mowing, trimming, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, and topdressing activities.• Applies or directs the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with safety codes, rules, and regulations.• Operates and maintains specialized turf equipment and power tools.• Inspects golf course conditions daily to determine work priorities and course setup.• Maintains detailed records of chemical applications, maintenance schedules, and equipment usage.• Assists the Golf Course Manager 2 with budgeting, procurement, and seasonal staffing plans.• Performs related duties as required.

     

    Minimum Qualifications 55-b/c Qualifications: This position is eligible for 55b/c appointment, and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. To be eligible for a55b/c appointment, candidate must be currently enrolled in the Civil Service 55b/c program and must meet the minimum qualifications listed above. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Two years of general golf course experience at a government, commercial, or private course, including grounds maintenance, turf grass management, fertilizing and pesticide application, or management of a golf course facility and equipment. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.Employees appointed via the NY HELPS program are restricted for promotional appointment until their position is covered-in to the competitive class by the New York State Civil Service Commission (CSC), or they otherwise obtain permanent competitive status. The CSC has recently covered-in employees who were appointed via NY HELPS on a permanent or contingent permanent basis between June 26, 2024 and June 11, 2025. Notification to employees regarding a change in their status is forthcoming.
