Embedded Firmware Engineer
Job Description
This role is pivotal in the development of complex embedded systems. As a leader in firmware design efforts, you will mentor junior engineers, engage in system-level architecture designs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products. This position requires a profound understanding of firmware development, extensive coding and debugging experience, and the ability to provide technical leadership within the organization.
Responsibilities
+ Provide technical guidance for system-level decisions.
+ Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to coding standards.
+ Optimize firmware for performance, power efficiency, and memory usage.
+ Drive the design of firmware architecture, particularly in systems using Real-Time Operating Systems.
+ Innovate in firmware development processes and collaborate with leadership and other departments to align decisions with organizational goals.
+ Lead design of complex systems and resolve ambiguous problems, incorporating feedback and solutions from others.
+ Act as Technical Lead, manage significant systems, use strategic planning, and mitigate risks.
+ Ensure documentation is accessible and understandable by cross-functional teams.
+ Make critical decisions regarding firmware architecture, technology stack, and implementation strategies.
+ Ensure firmware reliability and resilience in critical applications.
+ Establish standardized processes and analyze process metrics.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
+ 5+ years of embedded C firmware experience OR embedded linux experience.
+ Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
+ Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART.
+ Experience with ARM, STM32.
+ Experience working within a regulated market such as medical device, aerospace, automotive, or consumer goods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with BLE, wireless, and bootloaders.
+ Medical device experience.
+ Familiarity with ISO standards.
Work Environment
One position will be based out of the Versailles, OH office, and another at the newly opening office in Blue Ash, OH. The Blue Ash office is set to open in Q1 2026. Once opened, candidates will work 4 days in the office and 1 day from home. Initially, candidates will work from the Versailles office, with hotel accommodation provided if commuting is too far. The Blue Ash location will require occasional travel to Versailles for team meetings, building, and testing.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Blue Ash, Ohio. 4 days onsite and 1 day WFH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.89 - $76.92/hr.
