The Mobile Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing specialized utility fleet equipment used in electrical line work. This includes aerial devices such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other heavy-duty vehicles. The position requires independent work on active job sites, with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and preventative maintenance. A high level of mechanical expertise, diagnostic ability, and field readiness are essential.
Responsibilities
+ Perform diagnostics and repairs on utility fleet equipment including diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and emissions.
+ Conduct preventative maintenance on aerial devices, digger derricks, and specialized vehicles.
+ Work independently on active job sites while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
+ Perform vehicle inspections in accordance with ANSI A92.2 and DOT standards.
+ Respond to emergency call-outs and assist with field repairs alongside a lead mechanic.
+ Maintain and repair additional equipment such as skid-steer loaders and excavators.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 3 years of experience with utility, construction, or fleet vehicles.
+ Proficiency in diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and emissions diagnostics.
+ Valid driver’s license (Class A preferred or willingness to obtain).
+ Familiarity with ANSI A92.2 and DOT vehicle inspection standards.
+ Ability to work independently in rugged, outdoor environments.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
+ Ability to read schematics and use computer-based diagnostic tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Technical certification in diesel or heavy vehicle repair preferred.
+ Experience with aerial lifts, digger derricks, and hydraulic lifting equipment.
+ Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
+ Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Work Environment
The work environment consists of outdoor construction sites throughout California, with exposure to varying weather conditions. Fleet trucks operate 24/7, requiring occasional night-time emergency response. Mechanics perform on-site preventative maintenance and major repairs when vehicles cannot reach the shop. Safety is paramount, with PPE and high-visibility vests required at all times. Mechanics typically work in pairs to ensure safety and support.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benicia, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
