Description We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join a reputable university in Hampton, Virginia. This is a Contract-to-long-term position that offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of the institution. The ideal candidate will have a detail-oriented approach to accounting tasks and a commitment to maintaining accuracy in financial records.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and input journal entries into the accounting system with precision.

• Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes effectively.

• Maintain and update the general ledger to support accurate tracking of financial transactions.

• Assist with month-end closing procedures to ensure timely reporting.

• Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.

• Collaborate with team members and departments to streamline accounting processes.

• Generate reports and provide insights to support decision-making and compliance.

• Ensure adherence to accounting standards and institutional policies.

• Support audits and provide necessary documentation when required. Requirements • At least 1 year of relevant experience in accounting or a related field.

• Proficiency in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

• Strong understanding of bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.

• Experience with preparing journal entries and completing month-end close tasks.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in financial records.

• Ability to analyze and resolve discrepancies in financial data.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Familiarity with accounting software and tools is preferred.
