Gas Relight Technician

Position Summary: The Gas Relight Technician is responsible for safely performing gas meter change-outs, installing module upgrades, and relighting gas appliances after service interruptions or upgrades. This role ensures the integrity and safety of gas systems while maintaining high standards of customer service and compliance with utility regulations.
Essential Functions:
+ Service and maintenance: Repair, maintain, and troubleshoot natural gas systems and equipment.
+ Customer service: Safely relight gas service at residential customer locations and perform necessary follow-up steps.
+ Safety and compliance: Conduct safety and compliance checks on gas piping systems and adhere to all safety protocols and operator qualifications.
+ Testing: Perform pressure tests, leak detection, and appliance inspections.
+ Paperwork: Complete and submit work orders and other required documentation.
+ Equipment care: Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
+ Relocation: Relocate meter set assemblies as needed.
+ Hot-changes: Perform "hot-changes," which are service changes made while the gas is still on.
+ Customer interaction: Communicate with customers regarding service findings and recommendations.
Minimum Requirements:
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Previous hands-on experience in the natural gas distribution field is often required.
+ Knowledge of natural gas systems, safety regulations, and codes.
+ Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
+ Strong communication and customer service skills.
+ Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively.
+ Organizational and record-keeping skills.
+ Valid driver's license.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to dirt, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job construction sites. The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system from fumes, odors, dust, mists, or gases. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and /or 49 CFR Part 199.
