Lead Engineer - Power Generation

The Lead Engineer is both experienced, expert individual technical contributor as well as a leader that provides assistance to the Manager in directing and monitoring the work, training, and quality results of the Power Generation Engineering team. The individual is assigned accountability for specific plant systems and equipment and provides expert technical on-support for station activities, plant modifications, performance analysis, technical review of operating reports, evaluation of plant performance, and complex technical analysis to troubleshoot and resolve plant issues. The Lead Engineer supports the manager with distribution of work assignments, action tracking, motivation, mentoring of departmental personnel, evaluating their performance and identifying strengths and weaknesses. The Lead Engineer is also the main interface coordinating engineering support for Integrated Work Management processes for online and outage related work management. Monitor industry advancements with respect to electrical generation and incorporate best practices to improve OPPD operations and support strategic objectives.
1. Perform expert technical engineering functions of the Power Generation Engineer including:
* Independently executes all functions of system health monitoring including identification of critical systems or components required for reliable plant operation, identify trends and issues adversely affecting reliability and performance, and develop corrective action plans for resolution as part of the reliability centered maintenance program.
* Evaluate present and future risks to safety, reliability, and equipment performance and issue professional technical recommendations based on their professional analysis and assessment.
* Independently perform analysis or diagnostic evaluations and adapting and applying extensive and diversified knowledge principles in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
* Develop and maintain expert understanding of assigned systems.
* Applies project management principals to support the execution of large, complex, or time sensitive assignments or projects.
* Develop and lead complex troubleshooting of for highly complex plant issues.
* Accountable for thorough understanding and application of applicable codes, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
* Leads multi-disciplinary teams of both engineers and craft in execution of projects as assigned.
2. Assist with development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the system health monitoring program, as well as other engineering processes associated with the EPRI Equipment Reliability Program
3. Assist Manager Power Generation Engineering with the day-to-day task assignment, coaching, feedback, reporting, performance evaluation and assignment of work priorities/workloads for team members. (As Assigned By Manager Power Generation Engineering; 40% or less of role)
* In the absence of management, evaluate workloads, priorities and assign appropriate resources to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of departmental products & services.
* Act as the first point of contact for all division engineering services for the station
* Assist with the resolution of escalated issues, questions and work stoppage situations. (As assigned by or in absence of Manager Power Generation Engineering)
* Monitor, coach and recommend additional training solutions for team members to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to be effective in role.
* Maintain a detailed Subject Matter Expert with regard to the work and roles of the team. Assist in the training of new staff and cross training of existing staff. (As Assigned by Manager Power Generation Engineering)
* Provide input to the development of performance management documentation.
4. Keep informed and up to date on new industry methods and developments affecting OPPD¿s electrical generation facilities and develop new practices or programs to improve performance and support strategic objectives.
* Develop new processes or procedures, or improve existing, to maintain technical relevance, improve performance or fulfill OPPD strategic objectives.
* Represent OPPD as a technical expert for industry groups.
* Evaluate emerging issues from an engineering and operations perspective.
Qualifications
Required:
+ BS Degree in Mechanical/Civil-Structural/Electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Nebraska, or means of reciprocity within six months, or obtain PE license within twelve months of hire.
+ A minimum of five (5) years professional experience in equivalent power plant engineering work. Special projects and committees including technical skills may be considered for experience durations. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
+ Demonstrated broad prospective across multiple engineering disciplines and a thorough industry knowledge
+ Demonstrated perspective combining both technical and business attributes
+ Demonstrated bias for action taking proactive response anticipating and challenges.
+ Demonstrated capability to lead, motivate, and develop technical team members including the ability to encourage diverse ideas and concepts and effectively deal with conflict.
+ Strong communications, presentation, and negotiation skills
+ Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities utilizing creativity, foresight and mature judgement.
+ Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously with frequent changing priorities
+ Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a professional and respectful manner
+ Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Desired:
+ Two (2) years of experience in supervision or management of engineering or technical professionals
+ Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
+ Advanced Degree (MBA or MS ¿ qualifies for up to two (2) year's experience
+ Familiarity with alternative energy solutions
+ Working experience with robust reliability centered maintenance program.
+ Thorough knowledge of generating stations and energy markets.
