Biologist - Cell Biologist** **– Neurodegeneration
Overview
Eli Lilly has a proud record of drug discovery and development for Alzheimer’s Disease with a highly competitive portfolio of industry leading assets. We are now seeking highly motivated scientists to join the Neurodegeneration team to facilitate its mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other related neurodegenerative conditions.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Cell Biologist to join the ND Boston group within the Neurodegeneration Division. This role focuses on advancing research in neurodegenerative diseases, with a strong emphasis on Parkinson’s disease. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in cellular and molecular biology, combined with hands-on experience in advanced laboratory techniques.
You will develop and optimize cellular models of synucleinopathies using both cell lines and iPSC-derived neurons, enabling physiologically relevant assays for target validation, compound profiling, and the discovery of novel therapeutics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Lilly’s mission of delivering innovative treatments for patients while building a career in industry.
Key Responsibilities
+ Design, implement, and refine cellular models of neurological diseases and cellular physiology (e.g., protein aggregation, seed amplification, lysosomal and mitochondrial pathways).
+ Culture and differentiate patient-derived stem cells into neurons to establish drug discovery platforms.
+ Perform genetic manipulations, including overexpression and knockdown of disease-relevant targets.
+ Conduct phenotypic characterization of cells to uncover disease mechanisms and pathways.
+ Develop and execute high-content imaging assays, including image analysis and biochemical/functional measurements.
+ Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to drive project milestones.
+ Communicate results clearly through reports, presentations, and team meetings.
+ Maintain accurate electronic lab notebooks in compliance with Lilly quality standards.
+ Ensure a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
Basic Requirements:
+ Masters Degree in neuroscience, cell biology, stem cell biology, biochemistry or a related scientific discipline with 1+ years of work experience, or a Bachelors degree in scientific discipline with 2+ years of work experience.
Required Skills & Experience
+ Strong background in Parkinson’s disease and/or neurodegenerative biology.
+ Expertise in iPSC culture, characterization, banking, and neuronal differentiation.
+ Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, RT-PCR, ELISA).
+ Experience with genetic manipulation (viral vectors, knockdown strategies, CRISPR) and physiologically relevant models.
+ Solid understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis.
+ Knowledge of laboratory safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Familiarity with cellular models of protein aggregate propagation and related assays (e.g., ThioflavinT, protein seeding, luminescence and FRET-based assays).
+ Ability to troubleshoot and interpret complex cell-based and biochemical assays.
+ Demonstrated independence in experimental design, data analysis, and documentation.
+ Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
