The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) is currently seeking a Cloud Systems Administrator in the Office of Application Development & Maintenance.
The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) currently manages the delivery of IT infrastructure services to 89 Executive Branch agencies and managed network services to more than 1,200 state and local government entities. IT infrastructure services encompass mainframes, servers, service desk, end user computing, disaster recovery and security. Managed network services include the state’s wide and local area networks, voice, cable and wiring, and conferencing services.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Cloud Systems Administrator will support production and lower-level AWS environments running Linux, as well as Google Workspace, with future support for Azure environments. This role collaborates closely with Configuration Management, Business Analysts, QA, and developers to ensure secure, stable, and successful solution delivery.
The Cloud Systems Administrator serves as a technical expert for Linux within the GTA DevOps teams and supports incident and problem management for Windows and Google environments. Key responsibilities include partnering with the change management team on backup, patching, and support processes.
The Cloud Systems Administrator is also responsible for analyzing and presenting performance metrics for Linux environments and plays a vital role in tools integration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Contribute to Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) operations & support, follow defined best practices, implement support process, for supporting the GTA tools and secure development tools.
+ Coordinate application deployments, upgrades and changes with the relevant configuration management, application development teams, business stakeholders and leadership, define the upgrade and communication plan for the system’s users, send out upgrade, informational and outage notifications.
+ Assist customer agencies in configuring AWS, Google Workspaces and Azure accounts.
+ Deploy the AWS architecture for GTA Software Development tools including infrastructure, storage, compute, connectivity, and necessary configuration to ensure robust 24x7 availability and uptime.
+ Deploy, configure, and manage secure, scalable, and highly available AWS cloud infrastructure.
+ Monitor AWS resources (EC2s, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, etc.) for performance, reliability, and cost optimization
+ Apply best practices for backup, patching, and disaster recovery and high availability.
+ Develop reusable Terraform modules to standardize infrastructure deployments, automate configuration, deployment, and scaling processes
+ Experience with developing pipelines and executing Terraform scripts.
+ Integrate Terraform with CI/CD pipelines(AWS CodePipeline/Jenkins) for automated deployments.
+ Will be responsible to remediate AWS Security Hub findings and Guard Duty alerts in alignment with Organizational compliance standards.
+ Contribute to development and documentation of a robust patching and monitoring process and implement across all GTA Dev-Ops supported environments.
+ Implement robust operational monitoring for all GTA tools in scope by working with the QLIK team to develop and maintain publicly visible dashboards and application availability status, ensure alerting is sent to appropriate stakeholders in case of application or infrastructure outage.
+ Regularly assess and maintain GTA Security standards including, patching, hardening and use of standardized images.
+ Contribute to incident management investigation and root cause analysis when tools or applications are affected, implement corrective and preventive actions; ensure the team is represented on IT outage bridges and communication channels when appropriate.
+ Personally manage secure Linux servers in the data center and in AWS according to appropriate Federal and State guidelines (NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-53, Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems).
+ Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, highly dynamic environment.
+ Adaptive learner and always open to work on the new tools and technologies.
+ Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills
+ Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstration of critical thinking
+ Monitors integration activity using system console and reports abnormal behavior to management.
+ Provides Tier-1 and Tier 2 support and participates in rotational on-call customer support.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies

+ Strong knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancers, VPN).
+ Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
+ Proficiency in shell scripting or a programming language (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
+ Proficiency in managing services within a major cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field AND Seven (7) years of system administration experience in Linux and/or Unix WITH Five (5) years’ experience working with cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, and monitoring. At least one relevant cloud certification (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate, or Google Associate Cloud Engineer).
Note: An equivalent combination of education and job-specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: (Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience):
Cloud & Infrastructure Experience
+ Five (5) years supporting AWS cloud infrastructure in commercial or government environments
+ Hands-on experience with AWS services such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Route 53, and Certificate Manager
+ Familiarity with Azure, Google Workspace, and multi-cloud infrastructure management
+ Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
Networking & Security
+ Working knowledge of AWS networking (NAT, NLB, ALB)
+ Experience editing IAM policies (JSON), managing external certificates, and compliance validation in AWS
+ Familiarity with Active Directory integration and MFA solutions (e.g., Okta)
Scripting, Automation & Infrastructure as Code
+ Proficiency in shell scripting or languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash
+ Experience configuring sudo scripts
+ Scripting/automation with Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools (preferred)
+ Design and implement infrastructure as Code using Terraform for provisioning AWS resources
Operations & Monitoring
+ Experience in cloud-based system administration for Linux and Windows environments
+ Application and infrastructure monitoring, support, and optimization
+ Proven ability to analyze AWS billing data and recommend cost-saving strategies
Certifications
+ AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
+ AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
+ AWS Advanced Networking Certification
Other Tools
+ Experience with Bitbucket, AWS Code* suite (e.g., CodePipeline, CodeDeploy)
+ Google Workspace configuration and support
+ Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and UI/UX design.
+ Knowledge of SQL, query writing, and database integration.
+ Experience eliciting and documenting business/technical requirements.
+ Understanding of formal SDLC processes and best practice.

Worker Type: Hybrid – (in-office: 2-3 days per week)
Target Hiring Salary Range: * $77,100 - $108,000.00
*Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.
