Summary You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (APPSW/SYSANALYSIS) in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of the FLEET NUMERICAL METEOROLOGY AND OCEANOGRAPHY CENTER (FNMOC). Responsibilities You will perform software configuration management services to include installation and version control of hundreds of Government owned and created Numerical Weather Models, post-processing jobs, and web services. You will build and deploy a diverse library of software (including Python, Perl, Java, Fortran, ANSI C, and ANSI C++) on numerous LINUX based systems at dispersed geographic locations at multiple security classification levels. You will write and/or maintain configuration management software and scripts written in languages including but not limited to Shell Script, Perl, and Python. You will manage and modify the software configuration process and procedure to best meet the needs of 24/7 operations / Cyber Security and system dependencies You will coordinate with numerous members of the scientific and Information Technology (IT) staff at FNMOC, as well as identifying and transitioning new technologies to improve software configuration management. You will design, code, and document utility routines, jobs, shell scripts, and special purpose software to support computer center operations, programmer requirements, or special projects. You will be required to use Python, Perl, and LINUX shell scripting to develop interfaces to version control software such as GIT, Subversion, and other CM related programs. You will be required to identify and implement modifications to the software library configuration control system and change submission process. You will monitor the Configuration Control process for inefficiencies and defects, solicit and receive user feedback concerning Configuration Control processes and standards, perform analyses, and carry out improvements. Education All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience. For GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D. OR Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
