    Job Description Summary

    The Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) is seeking a Clinical Research Program Manager B/C (Manager/Senior) for the nascent Center for Cancer and Aging. Founded at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, PC3I is embedded at the nexus of research and practice. Our mission is to create, test, and scale solutions to improve how we care for patients with cancer. The Center for Cancer and Aging is a new initiative, administratively housed within PC3I, that aims to redefine geriatric oncology by advancing research, transforming care delivery, and fostering interdisciplinary education and training.

     

    In partnership with the Center for Cancer and Aging’s co-Medical Directors, the Manager will provide leadership, staff and project management, and administrative support for the Center. The (Senior) Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing the Center's core goals to advance high-impact research, promote evidence-based care, and develop leaders in geriatric and supportive oncology. Responsibilities will develop as the Center grows, but will always include program administration, project management, and support of education/engagement initiatives. The Senior Manager is responsible for both long-range planning within these efforts as well as day-to-day management of related work.

     

    This position reports directly to PC3I’s Director of Operations, with functional dotted line reporting to the Center for Cancer and Aging’s co-Medical Directors. This is a hybrid position. It can be primarily based in one of three locations: Philadelphia, PA; Princeton, NJ; or Lancaster, PA, with occasional travel to the non-primary sites as needed.     Job Description

    Job Responsibilities, Manager, Center for Cancer & Aging:

    Center Administration

    In partnership with the Center's Medical Directors, responsible for the overall direction, growth, and success of the Center:

    + Finance & Operations: Track and monitor Center budget and expenditures, both within specific projects as well as for the Center overall. Support efforts to secure funding via federal grants, contracts, and philanthropic contributions. Ensure sufficient supplies and resources to support Center activities.

    + People: Hire, onboard, and manage additional future Center staff, including analysts, coordinators, students, volunteers, etc. Build relationships with key Penn Medicine stakeholders across disciplines (e.g., oncology, geriatrics, and informatics) and sites (i.e., hospitals and practices). Liaise closely with PC3I around financial oversight, research, and project management best practices. Facilitate regular ongoing meetings with site team members.

     

    Project Management

    Manage a variety of projects, including research projects and health system-based initiatives:

    + Help to facilitate overall success of projects as well as day-to-day management. This includes coordinating and planning meetings, tracking work, overseeing data collection, preparing progress reports and data summaries, etc. Ensure robust and high-quality research operations as well as compliance with sponsor, University, school, and IRB policies. Support manuscript development for submissions to peer-reviewed publications.

    + Develop and oversee internal grant-awarding process to sponsor pilot studies advancing high-impact science in geriatric oncology. This includes developing the Request for Applications (RFA), supporting RFA promotion, driving the application and selection process, and monitoring projects.

     

    Education & Engagement

     

    Cultivate and develop a community of experts and leaders in geriatric and supportive oncology across the Penn Cancer System.

     

    + Collaborate with Penn’s graduate and doctoral programs to train the next generation of leaders in geriatric and supportive oncology and researchers focused on cancer and aging.

    + Build a strong community of individuals focused on cancer and aging, connecting them with one another and supporting their continued growth and development. In partnership with the Medical Directors and key stakeholders, support recruitment as appropriate.

    + Cultivate a national presence for the Center, its faculty, and its work via meetings/conferences, peer-reviewed journals, hosted symposia, and beyond.

    Job Responsibilities, Senior Manager, Center for Cancer & Aging

    All the responsibilities of the Manager, Center for Cancer & Aging, with the addition of:

    + Center Administration: Manage long-range strategic and financial planning for the Center. Represent the Center to senior-level stakeholders across the University and Penn Medicine.

    + Project Management: Collaborate with Directors to develop fundable ideas (incl. creating budgets and writing, reviewing, and submitting grant proposals). Develop tools and best practices for the Center.

    + Education & Engagement: Serve as a subject-matter expert in geriatric oncology. Develop program evaluation tools to support educational efforts. Represent the Center at national meetings and conferences.

    Qualifications

    Prior experience in program administration is required, with specific expertise in geriatric oncology preferred, as well as advanced professional skills in project management, clinical research management, and program administration.

     

    + For Manager, B level position: Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.

    + For Senior Manager, C-level position: Bachelor’s degree and 7-9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience preferred.

    Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
