    This position is open to Internal Candidates Only

     

    Assist in managing the college’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and to ensure proper services and related equipment are delivered and/or provided for students. Serves as the 504 Coordinator for students.

     

    Examples of Duties

     

    + Provides leadership and operational support in managing the daily functions of The Center for Accessibility

    + Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to support students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), its amendments and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

    + Interprets disability documentation and develops accommodation plans and recommendations for students with disabilities as needed

    + Supervise professional staff, ensuring effective delivery of services and resources

    + Provides information and responds to inquiries related to the needs of students with disabilities and services of the CFA on campus and in the community

    + Maintain departmental files, statistics and data and confidential materials in accordance with federal and state laws

    + Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure implementation of accommodations and to foster universal design and accessibility on campus

    + Monitor and evaluate CFA student progress, retention and outcomes: contribute to regular reporting and departmental assessment.

    + Assist with managing CFA budget

    + Conducts research on access issues and needs, making recommendations for improvement and updating compliance protocols

    + Manages the hiring, schedules, supervises and evaluates notetakers and American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters

    + Participates in professional development opportunities related to providing services for students with disabilities

    + Provides expertise to colleagues in the support of the assurance of ADA compliance across the institution

    + Provides academic advising for program participants as needed

    + Serves on college committees

    + Performs related duties as assigned

    Typical Qualifications

    Education:

    + Master’s degree in Counseling, Special Education, Higher Education, Social Work or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience working with individuals with disabilities

    Experience:

    + 3 years of progressively responsible related experience working in a Higher Education environment

    + Experience working with students with disabilities

    + Supervisory experience a plus

    + Experience with Ellucian Colleague management information systems preferred

    Competencies and Skills:

    + Knowledge of ADA, its amendments and Section 504

    + Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

    + Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and understanding of students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds

    + Working knowledge of assistive hardware and software options

    + This position requires flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
