As a Structural Analysis and Test Manager – Manager Level 1 located in Dulles, VA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
The ME Mechanical Analysis Manager will work with other engineering managers and program managers across the multiple business areas to develop and enhance critical technical capabilities that drive our businesses. The successful candidate will work closely with their direct reports and business area leaders to develop engineering talent, tools, and processes, while also working closely with peer departments in manufacturing, design, quality, and program management. The ME Mechanical Analysis Manager will be responsible for the communication and engagement to their direct reports and assisting the employee’s career growth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing, leading, and mentoring all tasks for Structural Analysis associated with Space Vehicles. Responsibilities pertain to understanding simulation tools, computational resources, coordinating a team of support analysts and may include performing relevant analyses and liaison activities to the program and customers. Candidate should have some working knowledge of sine, random, acoustic, shock environments, Craig-Bampton model reduction, fracture and fatigue, hardware testing for satellite space systems. The manager will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and facilitating communications, tasking, scheduling, and technical reviews with each individual contributor’s associated functional task. For functional home room support, approximately up to 10% of the manager’s time may be focused on recruiting, staffing, retaining talent, and holding performance reviews.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Performs as a working manager by being both an Program subsystem leadand functional leader of a team (80-90% direct labor, 10-20% indirect labor) of 8-12 engineers.
+ Is responsible for the technical performance and filling staffing demands of the Mechanical Analysis Group
+ Will be an Program Subsystem Lead within the Mechanical Analysis group providing mechanical support on TSSD programs
+ Support improvement initiatives, including employee engagement
+ Work with the Senior Leadership to establish, maintain, encourage, and enforce common design practices, standards, and policies in the Mechanical Analysis discipline
+ Assist in hiring staff to establish and maintain a broad range of capabilities across the business area that meets the area’s overall needs and objectives
+ Identify training for staff to support a broad range of capabilities across the company as well as employee growth
+ Work collaboratively with Program Managers across NG facilities within the overall framework of the organization
+ Be an active and engaged manager; know what programs employees are working on and the tasks they are performing on those programs
+ Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
+ Provide general management, mentorship, motivation, guidance, and support to assigned staff
+ Support the Capital procurement process by recommending tools, equipment, and facilities, needed to support the organization
+ Support Mechanical IRAD initiatives
+ Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
+ Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
+ Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
+ Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
+ Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.
+ Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
+ Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.
+ Developing, coordinating, and conducting test programs required to evaluate design work.

Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3+ years of professional experience
+ Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance
+ Minimum 2 years of supervisory or lead engineer experience.
+ Has demonstrated strengths in Structural Analysis, Simulation, and/or Test
+ Strong technical skills in structural analysis engineering tools, potentially including: NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH, OPTISTRUCT, MATLAB, EXCEL VBA, PYTHON, VA ONE
+ Possess leadership skills to develop, organize and execute design activities, including building teams, and assessing technical performance
+ Possess the ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, division managers, and peers in the business areas
+ Ability to work on-site at the Dulles campus.
Preferred** **Qualifications:
+ Active Top Secret clearance.
+ Advanced graduate degree (Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy) in a related engineering field
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Experience with the fundamentals of spacecraft systems, requirements, simulation and test

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,900.00 - $194,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
