Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a **Propulsion Engineer** to join our Loaded Motor team. This position will be located at our facility in **Promontory, UT** .
_Role description & Responsibilities:_
The **Propulsion Engineer** is responsible for evaluating internal ballistic performance of solid rocket motors produced at Northrop Grumman facilities in Utah, which range in size from very large space launch boosters to small subscale laboratory test motors. This includes a wide variety of boosters used in launch vehicles for defense, space, and commercial applications.
_Job Duties:_
• Analyze ground test and flight motor performance using computer software
• Design solid propellant grain geometries for new rocket motors
• Assess results of static tests to improve analytical modeling
• Develop and present documented analyses to internal and external customers
• Evaluate historical motor performance data
• Develop performance requirements
• Coordinate tasks with other analysts and designers
• Improve and update analytical methods and computer software
• Performing tasks in adjacent roles such as thermal, structural, design, and CFD
• Travel expectation of 0% - 5%
_Basic Qualifications:_
_This position can be filled at either a level 2 or level 3._
_Basic Qualifications for a level 2:_
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical) and 2 years of experience or MS degree in engineering.
• Basic knowledge of solid rocket motors and their performance
• Computer programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, C, C++), CAD, and MS Office
• Familiarity with statistics and statistical methods
• Highly self-motivated
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent time management and personal organizational skills
• Detail oriented and able to understand the big picture
• Willingness to learn
_Basic Qualifications for a level 3:_
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical) and 5 years of experience or MS degree in engineering and 3 years of experience.
• Basic knowledge of solid rocket motors and their performance
• Computer programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, C, C++), CAD, and MS Office
• Familiarity with statistics and statistical methods
• Highly self-motivated
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent time management and personal organizational skills
• Detail oriented and able to understand the big picture
• Willingness to learn
_Preferred Qualifications:_
• Master’s degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical) with 3 years of experience or a PhD in engineering.
• Experience or education with an emphasis on rocket propulsion, combustion, fluid dynamics, or thermodynamics
• Experience performing technical analysis
• Experience evaluating large data sets and deriving conclusions
• Demonstrated success in a team environment
_Additional Requirements:_
• Successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
