    The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for assisting in providing innovative and cost effective solutions requiring the development or sustaining of new or improved techniques, procedures or products. The Mechanical Engineer also assist in planning, conducting and evaluating approaches to meeting the project objectives in a timely fashion.

     

    + Assist in identifying and organizing requirements. Apply relevant usability procedures and principles.

    + Analyze, design, develop, maintain products and assist in their commercialization.

    + Build prototypes, products and systems suitable for testing. Set up and run lab simulations. Design and implement tests, document results and develop customer presentations. Provide timely corrective actions on defects.

    + Produce analyses and mathematical models and draw design conclusions based on those.

    + Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other artifacts. Contribute to design standards and support design re-use.

    + Create and maintain product documentation. Provide support to field and customers through InTouch. Provide user training as required.

    + Assign, direct and review work of technicians and provide guidance to engineers. With seniority, mentor junior engineers.

    + Continually evaluate engineering approaches and risks.

    + Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations. Share expertise via Eureka and special interest groups. Expand informal network throughout the organization.

    + Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets. Adopt new practices readily to develop innovative and low-cost products.

    + Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business.

    + Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Lead the design and development of subsea umbilical systems, inclusive of umbilical cross section, topside and subsea umbilical terminations.

    + Function as primary technical contact with clients and suppliers.

    + Manage all project technical deliverables while adhering to project budget and schedule

    + Engineering specification of sub-supplied ancillaries such as dynamic bend stiffeners, bend stiffener connectors, buoyancy and ballast modules, and various clamp assemblies.

    + Oversight and completion of engineering calculations and reports required for cross section design, end termination strength, seabed stability, corrosion protection, accumulated plastic strain, sea fastening and any other project specific requirements.

    + Develop manufacturing plan and umbilical layout for most efficient manufacturing of the umbilicals.

    + Provide close support of all manufacturing activities including umbilical bundling and extrusion, termination, factory acceptance testing and loadout and installation.

    + Design of test samples and procedures for typical API 17E umbilical tests such as umbilical flex fatigue, tensile and torsional, end strength, bending stiffness, bundle impact, crush, internal friction and tensioner hold back testing.

    + Produce all required technical project documentation to be delivered to and agreed upon with the client.

    + Provide technical support and troubleshooting during all phases of project execution.

    + Manage client and supplier interfaces.

    + Evaluate effectiveness, safety, and economic impact of designs and optimize as required.

    + Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, procurement, quality, manufacturing and offshore installation teams.

    + Support sales related activities such as estimating, technical reviews of proposals and client meetings as needed

    + Lead and mentor junior engineers

    Minimum qualification & experience

    + Bachelor of Science in Engineering, mechanical is preferred

    + Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering.

    + Subsea engineering experience is strongly preferred but not required.

    Preferred Skills:

    + Experience with subsea umbilicals, subsea distribution equipment, or subsea engineering.

    + Ability to interpret and insure adherence to applicable industry codes and client requirements such as API 17E, ISO and DNV.

    + Competency with software such as SAP, SolidWorks, MathCAD and Excel.

    + Effective communication of ideas and concepts and ability to explain detailed technical information.

    + Hands on approach to engineering.

    + Strong work ethic.

    + Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

    + Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead projects. Capable of developing strong working relationships with a variety of roles.
