About this Job
The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Coastal Resources Scientist 4 to join its Plan Development Section within the Planning and Research Division. This role involves understanding the complex technical issues of coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection initiatives while balancing environmental, economic, and social considerations. As part of the Master Plan Team, the position plays a role in helping to develop the state’s Coastal Master Plan, the document that shapes the state’s strategies and investments in protecting and restoring vital coastal ecosystems and addressing risks to communities from storm surge-based flooding.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A master's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus one year of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A Ph.D. in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Supports scientific, environmental, and technical work related to the development and implementation of Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan, including coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders, and assisting in public engagement efforts such as hearings and meetings to gather input.
+ Assists in the preparation of planning documents, analyzing data, developing project fact sheets, and preparing presentations and reports for decision-makers and advisory groups; proficiency in GIS or graphic editing software is a plus.
+ Prepares and reviews technical materials—including reports, fact sheets, presentations, and talking points—often for use by CPRA leadership in high-profile settings, while also providing technical expertise and support in responding to public inquiries and reviewing coastal restoration and hurricane protection documents.
+ Develops and manages project-specific contracts by preparing scopes of work, deliverables, budgets, and schedules; ensures contractor compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements, and reviews invoices to support oversight and accountability.
+ Provides mentorship and technical guidance to lower-level Coastal Resources Scientists, ensuring consistency and quality of work, while also representing the Planning and Research Division or CPRA at conferences, workshops, and public meetings.

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA’s Special Entrance Rate Policy is $2,192.80. The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist 4 is $90,022 annually.
