Accountant III - Credit

Some of what you'll be doing:
As an Accountant III- Credit, you will provide complex analysis and collection support to ensure any arrears owed to the Port are collected or recovered in a timely manner. You will liaise with various departments and external customers to address customer payment issues.
+ You will review and analyze Accounts Receivable (AR) aging reports and related customer account information for assigned portfolios from enterprise AR module and various revenue sub-systems to identify trends in customer activities, signs of default, monitor billings and receipts.
+ You will communicate regularly with operation teams regarding customer accounts status through aging meetings, and participate in discussions/email correspondence towards resolution, especially severely aged items.
+ You will take collection action on delinquent accounts. You will also process and distribute dunning letters, conduct skip-tracing and credit checks, work with operations teams and/or customers to secure payment.
+ You will file liens or coordinate public auction on personal property, or file proof of claim with legal on customer declared bankruptcy.
+ You will resolve inaccuracies and perform maintenance of customer accounts. You will also identify write-offs, refunds to customers, investigate and resolve unapplied credits and receipts.
+ You will prepare maintenance worksheets with proper coding and supporting document for supervisor/manager's approval. You will also identify anomalies, research, analyze, resolve, and correspond to internal and external parties.
+ You will clearly communicate all necessary background information to manager, and Information Communication & Technology (ICT) for further investigation of unresolved system issues.
+ You will review financial elements of draft security/surety instruments (e.g., letter of credit or bond) upon request. You will also review and monitor delinquent fees assessed in accordance with tariffs and executed contracts.
+ You will provide functional support to module lead to resolve system issues, test during upgrades and assist with necessary training in the field.
+ You will support internal and external audits by timely response to questions from auditors regarding customer accounts and follow up outstanding confirmation letters with customers if needed.
Who you are:
+ **Experienced** – You have four (4) years of experience in accounting or finance, to include account receivables, billing, credit, collections and/or financial reporting and financial systems.
+ **Desired** – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration or a closely related field.

+ **Problem-Solver** – You have analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and high level of accuracy. You also have strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills and can exercise sound judgment and decision making on escalations and collectability of accounts.
+ **Highly Organized** – You possess organizational skills to manage completeness of information received from a variety of sources. You can also handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
+ **Technically Skilled** – You have knowledge of and proficiency with lease management software, Microsoft Office Suite, including proficiency with advanced excel functions.
What else you need to know:
+ **Work Schedule** – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
+ **Work Environment** - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
+ **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
