At Sunlighten, we're not just about infrared saunas, we’re on a mission to improve lives through innovative health and wellness solutions. As a global leader in infrared sauna therapy with a 25-year legacy of innovation, we’ve grown from our Kansas City roots to establish a global footprint. With the wellness market projected to reach $7 trillion by 2026, we’re proud to lead the way in light science and longevity. We’re rapidly expanding our BI, AI, and Automation team and are on the hunt for a curious, proactive, and methodical Data Engineer to take us to the next level. Based in the Kansas City metro area, we offer the best of both worlds: the growth of a global company with the close-knit culture of a local business.
Sunlighten's Data Engineer will build and operate the data backbone that powers BI and AI, so Sunlighten can move faster on revenue, CX, and efficiency goals. You will deliver reliable pipelines, governed models, and automations that keep our warehouse the source of truth and enable analysts and agents to perform.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Build/own ELT/ETL from Salesforce, NetSuite, Five9, Live Chat, Marketing Cloud, Shopify, product telemetry (ClickHouse/Postgres) and others into Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse; aggregate product data back into Fabric for analytics.
+ Model clean, documented, testable datasets (semantic layer/metrics). Standardize UAT‑aligned report inputs.
+ Prepare RAG corpora: content extraction, chunking, embeddings pipelines, freshness SLAs.
+ Orchestrate with Fabric Pipelines and Notebook scheduling; optionally trigger via Power Automate. Implement data quality tests; publish runbooks and lineage.
+ Security & governance: manage secrets (Azure Key Vault/1Password), RBAC, PII minimization, audited privacy deletions (SLA ≤ 7 days), reproducible pipelines.
+ Cost/perf: favor Python over PySpark where volumes allow; rightsize compute; caching; retries; idempotent loads.
+ Automations: build monitors and self‑healing for sync issues; central automation tracking (Five9 skills, lead/opportunity scoring, delivery/ETA, snapshots). Create Power BI operational dashboards so end users can see status/health.
+ Create shared Python libraries for connectors/validation to improve maintainability.
+ Occasionally ship a small automation end‑to‑end (ETL → model → Power BI view) and support AI teams with API data services.
+ Other duties as discussed and assigned.
Requirements
+ BS/MS in CS/Data/Software Engineering or equivalent experience; evidence of shipped work.
+ 2–5 years in enterprise experience in data/analytics engineering; production orchestration and CI/CD in Azure.
+ Strong SQL & Python (PySpark a plus). Testing and code review discipline.
+ Azure ecosystem: Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse/Warehouse/Notebooks/Pipelines), Data Factory/Synapse concepts; Git/Docker; API integrations/CDC.
+ Power BI for data validation, operational/exec views.
+ Documentation discipline (lineage, SLAs, runbooks); excellent communication.
Benefits
+ Opportunity to work in a collaborative and innovative environment.
+ Career growth opportunities in a market leading and rapidly growing wellness technology company.
+ Competitive Paid Time Off Policy + Paid Holidays + Floating Holidays.
+ Fully Equipped Fitness Center On-Site.
+ Lunch Program featuring a James-Beard Award Winning Chef.
+ Health (HSA & FSA Options), Dental, and Vision Insurance.
+ 401(k) with company contributions.
+ Profit Sharing.
+ Life and Short-Term Disability Insurance.
+ Professional Development and Tuition Reimbursement.
+ Associate Discounts on Saunas, Spa Products and Day Spa Services.
