    As the Calibration Technician Team Lead you will provide leadership and supervision to the calibration technician team and will be responsible for the performance and efficiency of the calibration team. You will perform a variety of moderately complex tasks, including, but not limited to test equipment maintenance, assembly tasks, system tests and calibrations that require the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions. Uses developed techniques, materials, tools and equipment, utilizing electrical and mechanical test equipment. Follows calibration lab best practices. Documents calibration results with 100% accuracy to ensure compliance with calibration standards of ISO17025, ISO16063, ANSIZ540 per company’s accreditation through A2LA, and ensures compliance with and supports continuous improvement of the MSQS system. Supports The Modal Shop’s goal of Total Customer Satisfaction by performing the following job duties in a timely and accurate fashion.

    Additional Duties:

    + Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team, providing clear direction, ongoing feedback and fostering a positive and productive work environment.

    + Manages personnel functions such as hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations, addressing performance concerns and ensuring policies and procedures are being followed.

    + Works with MSQS Leadership Team Representative to have a lead role in the 17025-accreditation process, including coordinating and supporting internal and external audits of all in-scope calibration activities

    + Performs all job duties of the Calibration Technician I-III.

    + Following all TMS procedures and forms in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.

    + Performing moderately complex electrical, mechanical and environmental maintenance on in-house test equipment.

    + Performing moderately complex electrical, mechanical and environmental tests and calibrations on TMS products and other manufacturer products.

    + Perform calibrations on sensors and equipment using delegated stations and resources. Compares test results with manufacturer specifications to verify tests were performed correctly and data reported is accurate. Reports any out of specification results to appropriate team member.

    + Operation and maintenance of the laser primary calibration system. Maintenance and record-keeping of in-house calibration equipment.

    + Performs all calibration and related tasks efficiently and accurately by following established written procedures.

    + Responsible for verifying that all tested or calibrated products meet specifications.

    + Responsible for monitoring and logging environmental conditions during calibrations.

    + Ensures calibration equipment is within calibration cycle; informs the team when dates are close to expiration.

    + Communicates with the team concerning any problems with product testing equipment.

    + Understands and uses proper ESD procedures as outlined in the ESD procedure.

    + Oversees the training and development of calibration technicians, track progress and submit reports and records to the Quality Leader.

    + Provides input to the development of testing procedures, equipment or automated testing programs; may also suggest new test procedures or equipment.

    + Participates in the development of testing and calibration procedures for newly developed products involving existing methods and equipment.

    + Works with the Quality team to ensure all equipment is in calibration and functioning properly. Communicates with the Quality team concerning any problems with product testing equipment.

    + Ensures all safety precautions are being followed per department guidelines when operating test equipment. Promotes safety and cleanliness within the calibration areas and proper maintenance of equipment.

    + Interfaces with Planning, RMA and Rental teams to coordinate team resources and prioritize to meet demands.

    + Acts as liaison between the calibration team and engineering to develop procedures, solve problems and troubleshoot equipment.

    + Maintain metrics related to productivity, accuracy and timeliness; develop and execute plans to achieve target goals; evaluate processes and implement approved suggestions to improve.

    + Provides input for proficiency testing reports and manages technician training files, ensuring qualifications, certifications, and recurrent training are accurately maintained and audit‑ready.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned or needed for the efficient operation of the team.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Education: Associates degree in mechanical or electrical technology or equivalent experience.

    + Experience: 8+ years’ experience in a related field involving device calibration and measurements. Familiar with most concepts of sensor designs within a product group. Basic computer skills. Demonstrated leadership capability. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    + Travel Requirement: As needed

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Metrology testing lab experience preferred. Previous supervision experience preferred.

    + Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical technology or related field.

This role requires the ability to work in an indoor production environment with moderate noise level.

    International Traffic in Arms Regulations

    This position requires access to “controlled technology” as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730 et. seq.) and “technical data” as defined in the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (22 C.F.R, Chapter 1, Subchapter M). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
