The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University (the Center) is looking for a Bilingual **_Civic Design and Training Specialist_** (English/Spanish). The first of its kind in the world, the Center aims to advance the field of public sector innovation by marrying cutting-edge practice with world-class research in order to transform the culture of government, deliver exceptional results for residents, and inspire trust in public service.
Reporting to the Training and Learning Lead, Civic Design and Training Specialist (English/Spanish) delivers and administers city-facing training programs. Additionally, this position includes the creation, development, and evaluation of training activities and workshops using cutting-edge Civic Design tools and techniques. The ideal candidate has deep experience in design with a passion for training and teaching to cities and partners.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
_Instruction and Administering Training Programs (45%)_
+ Serve as the primary in-house instructor for the delivery of the institutional methodology, including the Path to Public Innovation. This includes in-person and virtual instruction for programs across the Innovation and Civic Engagement practice.
+ Collaborate within BCPI to understand instruction needs for programs and develop strategies to meet those needs.
+ Work closely with the Training and Learning Specialist to coordinate and administer observation of programs with contracted coaches and facilitators. Make recommendations for enhancements and improvements to content instruction and delivery.
+ Continuously update and refine existing class training decks and scripts, as well as coaching tools in Miro.
+ Prepare, analyze, and disseminate evaluations of training material.
+ Help to coordinate the schedule of training activities for all Innovation Trainings.
+ Support site visits for teams in active learning programs.
_Design (45%)_
+ Create and refine tools for workshops that support cities. Employ best practices in the design field (civic, human centered, co-design, equitable and inclusive design) to support training and learning experience for city leaders and their collaborators inside and outside of government.
+ Develop templates, tools, and methods that governments can use to improve service and program delivery.
+ Create visual framework templates – like journey maps, service blueprints, and ecosystem maps – that help clarify complex challenges in human behaviors, relationships, workflow, and processes.
+ Stay up to date with trends in civic design and public innovation and develop materials spreading best practices and cutting-edge research.
+ Provide customized technical assistance to select cities.
+ Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, visuals, recommendations, and other work products and present them to city leaders, BCPI staff, and other partners.
+ Support the i-team and other city government colleagues in agile ways of working, including a high proficiency in using tools like Slack, Miro, Google Workspace, etc.
_Additional (10%)_

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Experience instructing and delivering course content to adult learners.
+ Familiarity with general principles of adult education and the design and delivery of educational modules.
+ Ability to use and apply an intentional civic design process that includes research, ideation, and delivery with key stakeholders and community members centered in the process.
+ Knowledge of design-based innovation methodologies, including expertise in determining when and how to use specific approaches, frameworks, deliverables, and facilitation methods.
+ Ability to use common training, knowledge sharing, and design tools, including Miro, Canvas, AirTable and others.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to effectively and engagingly present information to learners.
+ Excellent organizational and time management skills.
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Adaptability and flexibility.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree.
+ Three years of experience.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
+ Spanish/English fluency.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 -$120,000 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
