Job Summary

As a Communications Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects that make an impact for WM, gaining hands-on experience in internal and external communications, content creation, and channel management.

About the Communications Team
This internship is part of the Upper Midwest Area Communications team—a team known for its attention to detail, collaborative spirit, and commitment to strengthening WM’s brand. You’ll explore communications tools and platforms, contribute to impactful messaging, and help drive purpose in everything we do.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Assist in managing and maintaining the Area content calendar, ensuring timely delivery of communications across platforms.
+ Create compelling content for internal newsletters, leadership messaging, and digital channels, with an emphasis on supporting frontline teams.
+ Support strategic communications planning, including internal, external, and functional messaging.
+ Ensure brand consistency across all communications, aligning with WM’s corporate guidelines and tone.
+ Support implementation of new communications tools and technologies.
+ Provide event planning and execution support.
+ Contribute to multimedia storytelling, including photography, videography, and visual content creation.
+ Communicate issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
Required:
+ High school diploma or GED (accredited).
+ Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (accredited) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Preferred:
+ Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong grasp of tone, clarity, and audience targeting.
+ Familiarity with communications and design platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, Canva, Staffbase).
+ Photography and videography skills; the ability to produce visual content is a plus.
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
Physical Requirements
+ This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines.
