    The Department of Psychology at Western Kentucky University (WKU), within the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS), invites applications for the position of Department Chair. This is a leadership role responsible for guiding departmental operations and advancing the mission of the department within the college and the broader university community. The mission reflects a commitment to a collaborative, student-focused culture that values interdisciplinary teamwork and academic excellence. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, clarity in both oral and written communication, a background in psychology, and maintain an in depth understanding of disciplinary trends in research and pedagogical practices.

    Responsibilities

    + Represent the Department of Psychology within the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, across the university, and in the community

    + Maintain a collaborative culture of programmatic excellence, academic innovation, and faculty retention

    + Manage daily departmental operations (meetings, dissemination of information, problem-solving, form approvals, report writing, managing office organization)

    + Facilitate personnel related tasks including hiring, continuance reviews, tenure and promotion reviews, annual evaluations, and assigning workloads

    + Facilitate faculty's growth and excellence in teaching, research, and service

    + Advocate for the department, department faculty, and department students

    + Oversee student recruitment and retention efforts

    + Manage department budget

    + Lead development of department course schedules

    + Communicate clearly and effectively in a timely manner

    Job Requirements:

    + Earned doctorate in Psychology from an accredited institution.

    + Ability to meet departmental standards for tenure and hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the time of hire

    + Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research and service at both the undergraduate and graduate levels

    + Demonstrated record of excellence in mentorship and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students

    + Demonstrated record of progressive leadership in administrative settings
