    Job Description

    R&D and Quality Engineer/Scientist - IKO Research

     

    Reports directly to: Director of Research, Quality and Compliance

     

    In this role, the successful candidate will be a key member of our R&D/Quality team, leading our glass fiber and glass mat development projects, supporting our glass mat and glass fiber production plants, responsible for our testing laboratory facilities, and communicating important technical insights to our R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Sales teams.

    Duties:

    + Lead development projects for glass fiber and glass mat functions

    + Work in the Glass Fiber and Glass Mat Plant Labs and help to build a new test/development lab on site.

    + Run glass fiber, glass mat and roofing product plant trials

    + Work with external development partners as needed

    + Provide technical support to the glass fiber and glass mat production facilities working regularly with the Manufacturing teams

    + Work with internal customers (shingle and commercial roofing production plants) to meet their needs and scale up new products; estimated 10% total travel.

    + Work with external customers and travel as needed, representing the organization as a Technical Expert.

    + Monitor the impact of new products on quality, production processes, and business performance

    + Communicating regularly with R&D Leadership and throughout the R&D Organization

    + Other duties as assigned by the R&D/Quality leadership team.

    Qualifications:

    + B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years’ industrial experience required. Masters or Doctoral degree would be an asset

    + Customer interaction and presentation experience preferred.

    + Experience running product or process trials in production facilities preferred

    + Understand links between R&D and Quality and company profitability

    + Hands-on laboratory experience and experience with supervising/guiding Technicians or Operators preferred

    + Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and interpersonal skills

    + Good problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail and data-driven decision making

    + Effective time management skills resulting in consistently meeting deadlines and balancing changing priorities

    + Energetic, self-motivated individual, capable of working in cross-functional teams and who demonstrates values of integrity, respect for others and accountability

    + Experience with reporting/interpreting data in spreadsheets/charts/graphs, proficient with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
