    The Allen School is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of **Senior Student Leadership Development Specialist.**

     

    This is a temporary position lasting through the 2025-2026 Academic Year.

     

    The Senior Student Leadership Development Specialist is a member of the Student Engagement & Access (SEA) Team. The purpose of this position is to oversee and manage the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering’s (Allen School) undergraduate Affiliated Student Organizations (~20+ per year), while providing services and events open to the entire undergraduate population of 2,300+ students.

     

    The Senior Student Leadership Development Specialist oversees and manages the Allen School’s undergraduate Affiliated Student Organizations. The person in this role is responsible for developing and upholding equitable policies for our Allen School student organizations. This requires strong organization and documentation skills. It also requires the person in this role to clearly communicate and uphold these policies when working with student organizations. The Senior Student Leadership Development Specialist will help organize 100+ Student Organization events per year. This requires the person in this position to utilize event planning and organizational skills on a daily basis. The Student Leadership Development Specialist must be able to work with key stakeholders, including Allen School leadership, to advocate for student needs and proactively address barriers and policies that may impact Student Organization success.

    Key Responsibilities

    Oversee the Allen School Affiliated Organizations Program:

    + Oversee and manage all Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations (~20 organizations per year)

    + Ensure that all Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations are in good standing with the UW Student Activities Office and the Allen School

    + Serve as the Registered Student Organization (RSO) adviser for Allen School Affinity and Social Groups including Ability, COM^2, Gen1, Q++, Minorities in Tech, Student Advisory Council, and Women in Computing

    + Develop a student leadership training curriculum to support the growth and development of student leaders; lead monthly all-hands meetings for all Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations

    + Lead a Fall student leadership retreat for the chairs and vice chairs of each student organization

    + Direct student leaders to campus, communities, and leadership experiences that relate to the mission and purpose of their club

    + Act as a liaison between student organizations, Undergraduate Student Services, and other Allen School & UW stakeholders

    Events & Retention Planning:

    + Co-plan an annual kickoff event for all Allen School students to learn about student organizations, the Undergraduate Student Services Team, and the Allen School

    + Help plan and oversee Allen School sponsored Student Organization annual events including COM^2 Fall Fest, COM^2 Winter Ball, COM^2 Spring BBQ, Gen1 National First Gen Day, Gen1 Graduation, etc.

    + Manage the application and selection process to send students to the Grace Hopper Celebration and Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity conferences; plan and lead a conference kick-off event for students attending the conferences; serve as a chaperone for students at both conferences

    + With Student Advisory Council, plan the quarterly Town Hall with the Allen School Director lunch events

    Documentation:

    + Create and enforce Allen School policies and procedures for Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations and affiliates registered student organizations to ensure that all Allen School Student Organization programming is equitable, accessible, and inclusive.

    + Manage the annual Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations Application and Re-affiliation Process

    + With the Assistant Director of Events, manage the annual Allen School Support Proposal Process

    + Update and maintain Allen School Affiliated Student Organization website.

    Budget Management & Purchasing:

    + Collect an annual budget from each Allen School Affiliated Student Organization at the beginning of the academic year; provide guidance to students on creating a realistic budget

    + Responsible for budget oversight and record keeping of all student organization expenditures

    + Manage the Student Organizations request sheet for Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations

    + Make purchases for Allen School Student Organizations events and programming

    + Reconcile all Allen School Affiliated Student Organization transactions on a university purchasing card based on Allen School and UW guidelines

    Space Management:

    + Manage Allen School SEA Team spaces including the Student Organizations closet, the SEA Team Student Employee Office, the SEA Lounge, and the Meditation Room

    + Work with the Facilities Team to manage space access for Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations including keys for the Student Organizations closet and keycard access for all Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations

    Other:

    + Professional development: may attend Tapia and NCORE conferences.

    + Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Student Engagement & Access.

    _Minimum Qualifications_

    + A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, STEM, or related field, and at least 2 years of experience advising, counseling, or working with undergraduate students.

     

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

    _Additional Qualifications_

    + Demonstrated experience providing student leadership development and training to undergraduate students.

    + Must have cultural competency and experience working with low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with limited access to college preparatory resources.

    + Demonstrated experience with development, planning, and implementing events and programming for undergraduate students.

    + Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and manage heavy workloads with frequent interruptions

    + Demonstrated experience organizing and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to pick-up and learn administrative tools and systems used by the department including Microsoft Office, Google’s suite, Slack, etc.

    Preferred Qualification

    + Experience with initiatives focused on broadening participation in higher education, and working with STEM students at a large public university.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $73,800.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $75,648.00 annual
