    The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Substitute Instructor provides instructional and classroom support to high school students enrolled in various career and technical programs during the regular school day.

    REPORTS TO: Secondary CTE Director

     

    DEPARTMENT: Vicksburg-Warren Career Technical Center

    EXEMPT:

    **VICE** **PRESIDENT:** Career and Technical Education, Sponsored Grants, and HBCU Initiatives

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE** **FUNCTION

    QUALIFICATIONS** **REQUIREMENTS

    **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** , include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

    Instructional Support

    + Assist with implementing instructional activities and lesson plans prepared by the regular CTE instructor.

    + Maintain continuity of learning and ensure students remain engaged and on task.

    + Supervise and guide students during classroom, lab, or shop activities while adhering to all safety procedures.

    Classroom and Lab Management

    + Maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment.

    + Enforce classroom, lab, and shop safety rules, including proper use of tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

    + Monitor student behavior and manage classroom discipline in accordance with school and district policies.

    Student Engagement

    + Encourage active participation in classroom discussions, projects, and hands-on learning activities.

    + Support students in completing assignments, demonstrations, and technical tasks aligned with industry standards.

    + Promote positive attitudes toward learning and career readiness.

    Communication and Collaboration

    + Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators regarding class activities, student performance, and behavior.

    + Report any incidents, safety concerns, or behavioral issues to the CTE Director or supervising teacher promptly.

    + Maintain accurate attendance and classroom documentation as required.

    Professionalism

    + Model professional behavior, workplace ethics, and employability skills expected in career and technical fields.

    + Adhere to all school, district, and program policies and maintain confidentiality of student information.

    + Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to support the success of all students.

    Safety and Compliance

    + Monitor students closely in lab and shop settings to ensure compliance with all safety and operational procedures.

    + Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or student injuries.

    + Ensure all tools and equipment are properly secured and stored at the end of class.

    The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

     

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
