Overview
Join a dynamic leadership team dedicated to delivering exceptional trauma care across a diverse patient population. As the Manager of Nursing for Trauma Services, you will play a pivotal role in supporting two nationally recognized trauma centers:
+ Iowa Methodist Medical Center – an ACS Level I Trauma Center, providing comprehensive care for all injury types, from mild to complex multisystem trauma. This center leads the region in trauma system development, disaster preparedness, capacity building, and trauma research. It is a cornerstone of the community and a hub for clinical excellence, education, and innovation.
+ Blank Children's Hospital – an ACS Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, offering initial definitive care for a wide range of pediatric injuries. The center contributes to regional education, system leadership, and emergency planning, ensuring high-quality care for children in critical moments.
+ Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Methodist West Hospital- two state verified Level IV trauma centers. They play and integral role in initial evaluation and stabilization of injured patients and work along side the higher level of care trauma centers as a system.
In this leadership role, you’ll oversee nursing operations, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the highest standards of trauma care delivery. Responsibilities
+ Assumes responsibility for operational and capital budget development, monitoring, analysis, and variance reporting.
+ Effectively utilizes tools provided for financial, quality, and staffing monitoring and management.
+ Remains knowledgeable of Human Resource labor laws including those pertinent to hiring, FMLA, short and long term disability, etc.
+ Complies with Human Resources policies, procedures and processes in regard to recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation, retention and performance management
+ Assumes accountability for the orientation plans of new employees and the annual competency plans for staff; aligns plans with unit goals and desired outcomes.
+ Creates overall plan and goals for department orientation plans as needed to assure successful integration of the employee into the organization.
+ Utilizes available tools and data to measure and monitor performance related to quality of care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction; including but not limited to Key Performance Indicators, Nurse Sensitive Indicators, Balanced Scorecard, HCAHPS scores and audits. Creates action plans for areas needing improvement.
+ Focuses on a culture of safety by proactively seeking safety concerns and promptly reporting and/or responding to incident reports using root cause analysis and process improvement tools (Adaptive Design).
+ Complies with regulatory requirements of such agencies as Department of Public Health, DNV, OSHA, etc. that are related to customer, employee, and environmental safety.
+ Establishes departmental goals which are aligned with the strategic goals and plan of the organization; continuously monitors of progress toward goals.
Qualifications
Education:
+ Master’s Degree Required; qualified candidates with a Ba chelor’s degree are eligible but must submit an action plan upon hire. Master’s to be completed within 3 years.
License(s)/Certification(s):
+ Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa
+ Instructor certification for Trauma Nursing Core Course – (or must be willing to obtain).
Experience:
+ Two or more years of progressing leadership positions in the healthcare environment.
Other:
+ Level 2 Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently , and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects .
