    Position Summary...

    What you'll do...

The Walmart Healthcare Research Institute (WHRI) is building a modernized AI/ML and multi-agent infrastructure to deliver next-generation healthcare research and real-world evidence (RWE) solutions. Our mission is to transform healthcare insights by integrating AI-enabled structured authoring, agentic orchestration, and advanced analytics across Walmart’s vast healthcare ecosystem — from retail pharmacy and clinical services to third-party research collaborations with biopharma and biotech organizations.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, AI/ML Software Engineering to lead the development of our AI-Enabled Structured Authoring and Business Experience Strategy and Agentic & Multi-Agent Enabled End-to-End Operational Delivery Strategy. This role will architect and implement intelligent, scalable, and explainable agentic systems that power healthcare research insights and real-world evidence workflows — enabling automated knowledge synthesis, study execution, and delivery pipelines.

You’ll collaborate closely with a Senior Data Scientist and cross-functional experts to bridge engineering, data science, and healthcare research, ensuring that our AI systems adhere to the highest standards of performance, ethics, and interoperability.

    * **Please note: This job is available in Bentonville, AR location only and no current or future sponsorship is available. Candidates who do not need sponsorship are strongly encouraged to apply.**

    What You’ll Do

+ Architect and Lead Development of AI-enabled structured authoring systems and multi-agent orchestration pipelines for RWE and healthcare research delivery.

+ Implement agentic and multi-agent frameworks using SLMs, LLMs, RAG, NLU/NLG models, MCP, and agent-to-agent communication protocols.

+ Build the Agentic Master Orchestrator infrastructure to coordinate task distribution, model interoperability, and real-time insight generation across research domains.

+ Partner with the Senior Data Scientist to design and operationalize ML models supporting semantic mapping, predictive analytics, and evidence synthesis.

+ Drive end-to-end system integration — from data ingestion and preprocessing to analytics execution, interpretation, and delivery.

+ Ensure all AI/ML implementations align with governance, provenance, and explainability standards for trusted-grade RWE outputs.

+ Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., data scientists, engineers, clinicians, researchers) and external partners (biopharma, CROs) to align system design with business and research objectives.

+ Establish code quality, documentation, versioning, DevOps, MLOps, AgentOps, and CI/CD best practices for AI pipelines within secure, compliant cloud environments (Azure/GCP preferred).

+ Mentor software engineers and contribute to WHRI’s AI/ML talent development strategy.

+ Proven experience designing and deploying multi-agent systems, large language model (LLM) pipelines, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures.

+ Deep understanding of NLP (NLU/NLG), vector databases (FAISS, Milvus, Weaviate), and orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Microsoft Agent Framework, Anthropic Petri, or equivalent).

+ Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated data environments (HIPAA, GxP, FDA, EMA).

    + **Technical Skills:**

+ Strong in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and modern backend frameworks.

+ Expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, JSON schema design, and microservices architecture.

+ Familiarity with Azure ML, Vertex AI, and CI/CD/MLOps/AgentOps/DevOps practices.

+ Experience working with healthcare datasets (claims, EMR/EHR, pharmacy, registries), ontologies (MeSH, OBO, DO, UMLS) and coding systems (ICD-10/11, SNOMED CT, LOINC, CPT/HCPCS, GPI, RxNorm) is highly desirable.

    + **Soft Skills:**

+ Demonstrates communication and leadership skills by conveying complex information in an understandable manner.
