Under direct supervision, the EEG Technician Trainee is provided with structured training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic (EEG) examinations and epilepsy monitoring. The trainee will learn to conduct EEG studies on patients across all age groups while ensuring that equipment is maintained in proper working order.
A caregiver in this role works day/evening/night/weekend shifts from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
_Candidates will be required to complete training in Ohio for up to three months. Travel arrangements, including flight, car rental, lodging and meal stipends, will be provided or reimbursed by the organization._
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Learn to perform electroencephalographic examinations on patients of all ages.
+ Receive training and instruction in the form of performing electroencephalographic examinations on patients in the laboratory or at the patient's bedside and Intensive Care Units.
+ Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions and select appropriate montages.
+ Calibrate and adjust equipment.
+ Observe patients with video and digital recording equipment.
+ Ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly.
+ Check focus, lighting and microphone.
+ Abstract relevant patient information from clinical records and obtain additional information by questioning.
+ Maintain equipment in clean operating condition.
+ Compile and forward charge slip for billing purposes as required.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within one month of hire
+ Six months of direct patient care experience OR one year of post-secondary education may substitute for experience
+ Knowledge of physical and biological sciences attained through high school course work with emphasis in those areas
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Knowledge of medical terminology
+ REG registry certification
+ One year of relevant experience

Physical Requirements:
+ A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
+ Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients, i.e., pushing beds, carts, and wheelchairs.
+ Ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
