Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant is an individual who, after comprehensive training, can function independently in some aspects of respiratory care. The responsibilities of the respiratory therapy assistant to demonstrate proficiency in all noninvasive modalities of Respiratory Care and other multidisciplinary assigned skills as defined by training and competency demonstration. The Respiratory Therapy Assistant will be responsible for execution of assignments. All care will be following hospital and respiratory policies. May work with Respiratory Therapists in the clinical care setting. Supports Customer First Initiatives.

What you will do in this role:

+ Demonstrates knowledge in identifying different pieces of equipment, disassembling, cleaning and reassembling various mechanical ventilators used in department.

+ Demonstrates, recognizes and follows indications for hand hygiene, correct hand washing procedures, appropriate use of alcohol-based hand cleanser and proper disposal and storage of hazardous materials, including biohazardous materials.

+ Performs and evaluates bedside spirometry and pulmonary mechanics.

+ Documents assessments, interventions, and patient response according to established policies.

+ Demonstrates ability to properly place EKG leads, operate, troubleshoot, print EKGs and initiate clerical responsibilities required for an EKG.

+ Provides age-appropriate care to all patient populations for which staff member is responsible and trained for:

+ Birth-1 Adult = 18-59 years

+ Pediatric=1 - 12 years Geriatric=60 & over

+ Youth=13-17 years

+ Assists Respiratory Therapist in positioning for extubations, properly extubating and placing proper oxygenating devices, and monitoring patients post extubation.

+ Demonstrates ability to identify customers and role of all staff in ensuring customer satisfaction.

+ Demonstrates ability to complete given assignments, reporting incomplete assignments to supervisor; and implement work assignments with existing workloads.

+ Selects, assembles and checks all appropriate equipment for proper function and cleanliness.
