Summary:
At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. This team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products, creating see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. The role involves designing architecture and display sub-systems for wearable devices, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.We're seeking an experienced Engineer focused on Optical Engineering to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore innovative architectures and design spaces for wearable systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis. In this role, you will be part of a team where you will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs.

Display Optical Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Explore architectures and design spaces for optical systems through design and prototyping using novel and conventional techniques and components
2. Develop and analyze system and subsystem components that are specified to meet the needs of advanced AR products
3. Perform detailed system level analysis (i.e. optical modeling, tolerancing, and estimating size, weight, power to predict system performance etc.)
4. Contribute to the process of design releases, prototyping and creation of related documentation
5. Collaborate with internal teams for adoption of mature technologies
Minimum Qualifications:

6. Bachelors or Masters degree in the field of Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or a similar field, and/or equivalent work experience
7. 2+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development
8. 2+ years of experience with optical systems or similar
9. Experience maturing optical systems from proof-of-concept to early low volume prototype or production
10. Experience in scripting and/or system optimization and analysis tools
11. Knowledge of optical design, modeling methods, and tools for imaging and illumination systems as well as tolerance analysis
12. Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment

13. Advanced degree in the field of Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical field
14. Experience in driving execution of display engineering builds
15. Experience in verifying and validating display performance, driving failure analysis of display/optical performance gap across display supply chain and driving corrective actions to improve performance and customer experience
16. Experience with cross functional communication with both internal and external facing vendors including facilitating discussions in factories
17. Optic Design: education in optic design simulation, tolerancing, and stray light modeling of display module or system
18. Tools: Proficient in one or more simulation and analysis tools, such as ZEMAX, TracePro, Lighttools, CodeV, statistical tools JMP, Matlab, or similar programs
19. Experience in image quality analysis and metric development
20. Experience in bringing up first generation technologies into device form factors
21. Experience with multiple full life cycle AR/VR product launches
22. Experience with end to end display module development, from components to system and balancing the performance and cost
23. 6-sigma experience (Green Belt or Black Belt)
24. Optic Design: Experience in optic design simulation, tolerancing, and stray light modeling of display module or system
25. Production Experience: Successful track record of delivering display modules or display systems into mass production
26. Machine learning and AI experience: Experience of applying ML and AI to optical applications
Public Compensation:
$111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
