Job Description
The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases, which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers.
The Bureau of Public Health Clinics seeks to hire a Reproductive Health Medical Director. This individual will report to the Executive Director of Medical Services.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Improve quality of reproductive health care in the clinics (using individual chart reviews, larger data analyses and direct observation).
- Oversee the medication abortion services: o Update protocols and policy and procedures for medication abortion services pursuant to identified clinician medical information gaps, legislative changes, and new evidence based published findings. o Attend agency-wide abortion access meetings o Address ongoing care including afterhours coverage o Initiate additional services as needed.
- Train Admin Public Health Nurses in basic dating ultrasound techniques o Facilitate weekly MAB staff meeting “ addressing problem cases, presenting legal/policy updates, providing training updates o Work with Bureau procurement team and the Agency Communication department for supplies and/or patient facing education material production/replenishment. o Oversee and expand the Community Health Worker (CHW) Pilot in the Jamaica clinic
- Participate in Quality Improvement Executive Council (QIEC) “ representing reproductive health indicators
- Design and roll out new service programs pertinent to reproductive health “ example “ UPT as part of the screening panel in select clinics
- Responsible for reproductive health professional development for all sexual health medical staff.
- Work collaboratively both within the Bureau (operations, behavioral health, nursing, laboratory services, EMR informatics and the data team) and across the Agency to disseminate topical and timely reproductive health information and new program ideas.
- Act as reproductive health ambassador, representing the Bureau and Agency in other jurisdictions throughout the U.S.
- When appropriate, provide publications based on the work being done in reproductive health within the sexual health clinics and at the NYC Department of Health.
- As an employee of the NYC-DOHMH, the Medical Director will be responsible for participating in the agency's emergency preparedness planning and agency emergency responses as needed.

AGENCY MEDICAL DIRECTOR - 5304A
Qualifications
1. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or
2. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in "1" above. However, all candidates must have a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
