Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer
Job Location: Torrance, CA
Salary: $140,000-$160,000/yr DOE
We currently have an opening for a full-time onsite Sr. Quality Engineer at our Torrance, California location to monitor and improve the quality of our operational processes and outputs. In this challenging position, you will design quality standards, develop quality control systems, and determine corrective actions. You’ll also collaborate with operations managers and supervisors to implement quality controls and improvements.
Responsibilities
Product and Process Monitoring:
+ Continuously monitor and evaluate the success of products and processes during production ramp-up using quality tools. Prioritize early identification and mitigation of quality issues to ensure smooth transitions to full-scale production.
Non-Conforming Product Management:
+ Oversight of containment (suspect or known) non-conforming products. Provide clear guidance to technicians, shop supervisors, and engineers on quarantining and rework activities. Ensure quick and effective resolution of quality issues to minimize production disruptions.
Root Cause Analysis and Failure Investigation:
+ Perform detailed investigations of failures at supplier locations, within production, and during testing phases. Identify and address immediate and underlying root causes to mitigate risks and enhance the reliability of designs and processes. Emphasize problem-solving to reduce scrap and rework costs.
COPQ Management:
+ Focus on identifying and reducing the cost of poor quality, including production-related scrap and rework costs. Implement effective strategies and corrective actions to minimize these costs and improve overall profitability.
Build Quality Reviews and Design Intent:
+ Conduct thorough build quality reviews to ensure design intent is met and clearly communicated. Identify and implement opportunities for risk reduction and complexity removal in designs and processes to enhance manufacturability. Collaborate closely with integrated product teams to drive continuous improvements and resolve high-impact, recurring non-conformances.
Continuous Improvement and Lean Production:
+ Support the shop floor in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and advancing a Lean, autonomous production system. Develop standard rework/repair guides, eliminate redundant or unnecessary inspections, and optimize control of critical processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Customer Interface for Quality Issues:
+ Act as the primary interface with customers on quality-related matters. Ensure timely and effective communication and resolution of any customer concerns or issues related to product quality.
Quality Audits and Compliance:
+ Maintain and coordinate Mandatory Inspection Points (MIPs) and quality audits to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations, including IPC J-STD requirements. Ensure all processes and products meet stringent quality and reliability standards.
Reporting and Metrics:
+ Generate comprehensive reports related to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA). Use data-driven insights to drive continuous quality improvements and cost reductions.
Standards and Best Practices:
+ Ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards in electronic assembly and manufacturing processes. Provide training and support to engineering and production teams to uphold these standards consistently.
Qualifications
+ At least six years of quality engineering experience, preferably in an aerospace environment
+ Experience with components used in space applications is desirable.
+ Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
+ Intermediate to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills
+ Proficiency in report writing and data presentation.
+ Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment.
+ Strong interpersonal skills
+ Excellent project management skills
+ Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, with the ability to ensure that processes and products consistently meet established quality standards.
+ Knowledge of pedigree reviews and customer selloffs is a plus.
+ Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance is desirable.
