    Job Description

    Purpose:

    The Creative Director serves as the lead visionary for visual communications within the College of Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES). This role is responsible for shaping the visual identity and narrative coherence of the college’s brand across multiple platforms, from print and digital design to photography, video and emerging media. The Creative Director provides both artistic guidance and strategic oversight, ensuring that creative output is innovative, compelling and aligned with institutional goals. This position plays a key role in building immersive, meaningful experiences that highlight the research, teaching and impact of Texas A&M Engineering.

    Responsibilities:

    Creative Leadership & Strategy

    + Shapes and advances the creative vision for Texas A&M Engineering, developing a distinctive and cohesive visual identity.

    + Translates institutional goals and complex ideas into compelling visual narratives that resonate with broad audiences.

    + Oversees development of campaigns, projects and multimedia content to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and brand standards.

    Team Leadership & Supervision

    + Supervises professional staff and student employees, including designers, photographers and videographers.

    + Leads, mentors and inspires a multidisciplinary team of designers, photographers and videographers.

    + Creates a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages experimentation and professional growth.

    + Provides guidance, feedback and support to ensure high-quality, impactful creative work.

    Project Oversight & Execution

    + Directs the conception, design and production of creative assets across print, digital, photography, video and multimedia platforms.

    + Balances leadership and hands-on creative contributions to guide projects from concept to delivery.

    + Establishes workflows, processes and quality standards to ensure timely and effective project execution.

    Innovation & Emerging Media

    + Stays current with trends in design, digital storytelling, photography, video and creative technology.

    + Introduces new creative methods, platforms and technologies to expand the college’s ability to reach audiences.

    + Encourages experimentation and adapts creative strategies to an evolving digital landscape.

    Collaboration & Communication

    + Partners with communications, marketing, development, and academic units to deliver integrated creative solutions.

    + Communicates creative vision and rationale clearly to stakeholders, building consensus and alignment.

    + Balances artistic innovation with strategic priorities and budgetary considerations.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Deep knowledge of design principles, visual storytelling, photography and video production.

    + Ability to conceptualize and lead innovative campaigns across multiple media platforms.

    + Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to mentor and inspire creative professionals.

    + Strategic mindset with the ability to align creative work to institutional goals.

    + Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

    + Proficiency in industry-standard digital and creative software.

    + Ability to manage resources, timelines and budgets effectively.

    + Commitment to fostering a collaborative creative culture.

    What is needed:

    + Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital media, communications, marketing, or a related field.

    + 10 years of progressively responsible creative experience.

    + Three years of supervisory experience.

    What is helpful:

    + Master’s degree in a related field.

    + Experience in higher education, research institutions, or large-scale organizations.

    + Familiarity with higher education branding, marketing, and communications.

    + Strong portfolio showcasing excellence in creative direction and visual storytelling across multiple mediums.
