Working under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation Maintenance, the Maintenance Craftsman performs manual works of a skilled and semiskilled nature in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds.
Examples of work include:
+ Ground maintenance tasks.
+ Maintains all public and school athletic fields, parks and playgrounds.
+ Operates, maintains and repairs specialized vehicles, equipment, and tools.
+ Performs semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry duties.
+ Maintenance of recreational facilities.
+ Responds to weather emergencies.
+ Performs related work.
Minimum qualifications include
+ High School Diploma and one year of experience in the maintenance of recreational areas.
+ Working knowledge of the materials and methods used in the maintenance of recreational areas.
+ Ability to operate, maintain and repair equipment used in recreational maintenance.
+ Ability to perform strenuous physical activity.
+ Ability to obtain Class B CDL, MA Hoisting Engineers License 2A, and Certified Pool Operator License within 6 months of employment. Hoisting Engineers License 1B and CPSI desirable, but not required.
+ Ability to operate motor equipment including backhoes and tractors in connection with performance of recreation maintenance activities.
This is a full time, 40 hours per week union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.
Salary is within Grade 6A, of the BMEA contract, offering annual increases via step system. Pay starts at $30.58/hour, with comprehensive and generous benefits.
