About the Role
We are seeking a **Maintenance Supervisor** who will lead a skilled team of technicians and maintenance planner responsible for maintaining and optimizing BD’s automated manufacturing systems. You will oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, ensure equipment reliability, and drive continuous improvement to meet production goals for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
This is a hands-on leadership role—ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly automated environment and enjoys solving complex mechanical and electrical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
+ Supervise a team of maintenance technicians across multiple production shifts, ensuring high levels of performance, engagement, and safety.
+ Maximize equipment uptime by monitoring performance, prioritizing repairs, and allocating resources effectively.
+ Provide technical leadership in diagnosing and troubleshooting automated systems including linear motion, pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum systems, robotics, vision systems, labelers, and conveyors.
+ Support technicians during equipment breakdowns by assisting with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and complex problem solving.
+ Maintain and improve preventive maintenance (PM) programs to ensure consistent equipment reliability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
+ Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering to resolve recurring equipment issues and implement long-term reliability improvements.
+ Utilize PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) to interpret ladder logic, analyze alarms, and assist in controls troubleshooting.
+ Manage spare parts inventory, vendor relationships, and maintenance documentation.
+ Identify training needs and mentor technicians to develop their technical and leadership capabilities.
+ Ensure all activities comply with BD’s safety, environmental, and quality standards as well as FDA and ISO regulations.
Education & Experience
+ Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related technical field.
+ 5+ years of experience in equipment maintenance or automation within a manufacturing environment.
+ 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity preferred.
+ Experience in regulated industries such as medical device, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing is highly desirable.
+ Demonstrated success in team leadership, resource planning, and preventive maintenance management.
Skills & Attributes
+ Strong leadership skills
+ Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to lead .
+ Strong knowledge of automated equipment, electrical schematics, and PLC troubleshooting.
+ Proficient in CMMS or digital maintenance tracking systems.
+ Organized, analytical, and proactive—able to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic production setting.
+ Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Work Environment
+ Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform work involving standing, bending, or climbing ladders.
+ Use of required PPE including safety glasses, shoes, and hearing protection.
