Job Description:
Team Overview
As a Software Engineer at Sage, you’ll be part of a passionate, collaborative team focused on modernizing and delivering high-quality software solutions. You’ll work closely with Product Management, QA, Cloud Ops, and Sage AI, operating in an Agile environment with 3-week sprints. Your work will directly impact the future of our products and the success of our customers.

• Demonstrate a solid understanding of the system under development and how customers use our products
• Lead the design and development of major features, collaborating with Product Management to understand design and feature trade-offs
• Create and track accurate and timely estimates for development projects
• Collaborate with the delivery team to create source documents and maintain development artifacts that maximize efficiency and ensure timely delivery
• Present architectural recommendations to the Architecture Review Board and participate in the evaluation of others’ proposals
• Execute different development approaches within each defined stage, keeping up to date with advances in the discipline (e.g., rapid, risk-based, exploratory, regression, security, usability)
• Take accountability for all development-related activities within a project phase, accurately record and communicate risks and issues, and produce effective metrics for the team lead
• Share knowledge and expertise across the wider engineering team and coach others to avoid key person dependency
• Carry out tasks as directed to meet the needs of the business
• This is a hybrid role – three days per week in our Beaverton, OR office.
Skills & Experience Required
• BS or MS (MS preferred) in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience developing Internet applications and as a team leader or technical lead
• Hands-on coding ability in web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, and application frameworks such as Java, LAMP, or .Net
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of database/data modeling concepts; experience with Oracle is a plus
• Strong analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
• History of shipping high-quality, well-designed software products
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work in a team, with good listening, verbal, and written communication skills
• Familiarity with relevant design principles and best practices
• Experience in designing and implementing software in a professional development organization
• Experience with an industry-recognized software development lifecycle process
• Experience in integrating software components
• Real-world application development experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Entity Framework or other ORM tools.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including stored procedures and query optimization.
• Familiarity with GraphQL and microservices architecture.
• Exposure to containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth2, JWT).
• Experience with serverless technologies and infrastructure as code.
30/60/90 Day Expectations
• First 30 Days: Ramp up on domain and product knowledge, review existing codebase and architecture, and begin participating in feature design discussions
• By 60 Days: Contribute to development and delivery, take ownership of assigned projects, and enhance code quality and documentation
• By 90 Days: Deliver meaningful features and improvements, lead development activities for major releases, and drive best practices in software engineering
