    Description

    Veteran Affairs Specialist

     

    The Veteran Services & Technical Support Specialist is a hybrid role providing direct assistance to veterans and ensuring technical support for the operations of the Veterans Affairs Office. This position ensures veterans are connected to critical services while also supporting staff and veterans in navigating digital tools, case management systems, and virtual service platforms.

     

    Examples of Duties

     

    + Serve as the primary point of contact for veterans accessing services, offering guidance and support tailored to individual needs.

    + Assist veterans with applications, benefits navigation, and document completion.

    + Connect veterans with resources such as housing, employment, healthcare, and education.

    + Provide technical support for staff and veterans, including troubleshooting software and hardware issues.

    + Support virtual and hybrid meetings, ensuring proper setup and functionality of AV and conferencing tools.

    + Maintain accurate digital case files using case management software.

    + Train staff on technology tools used in service delivery.

    + Monitor data security and ensure compliance with information privacy standards.

    + Coordinate with IT departments on system upgrades or issues affecting service delivery.

    12. Works on special projects individually or as a team leader or member.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in human resources, employee relations, public administration, business management, business administration or a related field. Advanced training or continuing education in human resources management or labor laws and practices preferred.

     

    Three (3) years of experience facilitating and/or providing technical support in the management of human resources and/or labor relations services in multiple functional areas including, but not limited to, work place violence and discrimination and harassment or in the adjudication of legal matters related to the provision of those services.

    Preferred:

    + Minimum of 2 years of experience in a direct services support role.

    + Familiarity with veteran support systems and benefits processes.

    + Strong technical troubleshooting skills and understanding of digital platforms.

    + Ability to communicate complex information in a clear, supportive manner.

    + Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and case management systems.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

    RETIREMENT BENEFITS

    City Employees Retirement System

    As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

     

    • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

     

    - At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

     

    - At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

     

    • In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

     

    - An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

     

    • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
