Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description:

This role involves collaborating directly with various functional groups to establish project, product, or process specifications. The Manufacturing Engineer translates these specifications into designs for products, processes, tooling, or equipment and collaborates with internal engineering teams and external suppliers to complete projects. Typical projects may include the introduction of new and/or automated processes in a production setting, product or process redesigns for material or labor cost reduction, and managing strategic business goals for manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

+ Develop detailed specifications for processes, equipment, or tooling needed to achieve objectives.

+ Create and execute process, equipment, and tooling runoff and validation plans.

+ Drive process improvements to eliminate waste, reduce costs, and shorten lead times.

+ Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring the timely delivery of critical path items.

+ Collaborate with suppliers of tooling and equipment to achieve project goals.

+ Forecast spending and manage budgets for Capital Investment Projects.

+ Lead or facilitate kaizen activities to improve production processes or introduce new business solutions.

+ Prepare project updates for management and serve as a project leader for cross-functional teams.

+ Mentor and develop other engineers or engineering technicians.

+ Travel to support equipment validation, with travel less than 15%.

Essential Skills:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

+ Minimum of 2 years of experience with lean engineering or similar business methodologies.

+ Experience coordinating complex projects.

+ Familiarity with kaizen, lean, standard work, mistake-proofing, statistical process control, FMEA, and problem-solving processes.

+ Experience in verification and validation of manufacturing processes.

+ Experience with equipment or tooling design and fabrication.

+ Technical drawing interpretation and report writing.

+ Mechanical design, 3D modeling, and 2D detail drawing creation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.

+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing support environment.

+ Experience with process automation or machine design (PLCs, LabView, other automated controls or languages) preferred.

+ Experience with 3D or 2D modeling software like Solidworks, Creo, or AutoCAD preferred.

+ Experience in manufacturing project management or launching new product/production cells preferred.

Work Environment:

+ The work environment involves a large manufacturing operation with a 24/5 schedule, possibly requiring more than 40 hours per week.

+ The role involves working in both manufacturing plant and office settings, focusing on process automation of existing processes, new product launches, advising, and creating production equipment and designing tooling.

+ The company operates four plants on their campus with a total of 600 employees, and the team culture is highly collaborative, supportive, and growth-oriented.

Job Type & Location:

+ This is an onsite position based out of Radford, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $54.33/hr.
