    Job Description

    The Construction Inspector is primarily responsible for conducting various construction-related inspections, ensuring adherence to building codes, construction drawings, and project specifications. The role involves performing inspections across multiple disciplines such as structural steel, concrete, masonry, and fireproofing, which may include both visual and physical inspections as well as field testing. The inspector will prepare detailed reports, document observations and testing materials, and communicate findings to the engineering or project management team. Adhering to strict safety standards is crucial.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.

    + Read and interpret construction drawings and provide clear documentation of findings and results.

    + Conduct basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communicating and submitting to the Project Manager.

    + Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed.

    + Draft inspection reports for review by senior inspectors or Project Managers.

    + Assist senior inspectors on projects when needed.

    + Maintain equipment and calibration.

    + Drive a company vehicle such as a Ford F-150 or equivalent.

    + Follow safety rules and practices, performing pre-task planning prior to executing work.

    + Report any safety issues or concerns to the person responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

    Essential Skills

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + Minimum 2-4 years’ experience as an Engineering Technician or in a related field.

    + 1 year experience in construction inspection preferred.

    + Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.

    + Experience in inspection, structural steel, and construction inspection.

    + Proficiency in using laptop computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.

    + NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing or Geotechnical.

    + ICC certification in areas such as Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, or Structural Steel.

    + AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

    + ASNT Level II certification in various testing methods.

    + ACI certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade.

    Work Environment

    The role is predominantly field-based, with 90% of time spent on-site. The inspector will travel in a company vehicle to various sites around the greater Portland area. During the winter months, most work will occur in North Portland, with opportunities to work on projects like the Boardman to Hemmingway Transmission line.     Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
