    The Senior Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repairer serves as the lead technical expert responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of structured cabling, telecommunications, and network connectivity systems supporting USCIS facilities and mission-critical operations. This position provides advanced technical support and hands-on leadership in implementing voice, data, and fiber optic cabling infrastructure in compliance with USCIS, DHS, and federal standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead and perform installation, termination, testing, and certification of copper and fiber optic cabling systems, including racks, patch panels, jacks, and conduits.

    + Install, maintain, and repair telecommunications equipment and systems such as routers, switches, VoIP devices, and associated hardware.

    + Conduct site surveys and provide detailed documentation (as-built drawings, labeling, and test results).

    + Ensure all cabling and installations adhere to federal, DHS, and USCIS standards (TIA/EIA, NEC, and local building codes).

    + Troubleshoot and resolve complex connectivity issues, including signal loss, noise, grounding, and cross-talk problems.

    + Supervise and mentor junior installers and technicians; ensure quality control and adherence to safety and installation standards.

    + Coordinate with network engineers, facility management, and contractors during installations, upgrades, and relocations.

    + Perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics on voice/data cabling and related hardware.

    + Maintain accurate inventory and status of cabling materials, tools, and equipment.

    + Provide recommendations for improvements to cabling infrastructure and system performance.

    + Support project documentation, change management, and configuration control in accordance with USCIS processes.

    + Respond to service requests, incident tickets, and maintenance tasks promptly, ensuring minimal impact to operations.

    Qualifications

    + U.S. Citizenship.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain DHS/USCIS suitability or clearance.

    + High school diploma or GED; technical certifications or post-secondary education preferred.

    + 7+ years of experience in telecommunications installation and support, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead technician capacity.

    + Extensive knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA-568, 569, 606, and 607), copper and fiber terminations, and testing procedures.

    + Experience with installation tools, fiber fusion splicing, OTDR testing, cable analyzers, and labeling systems.

    + Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and site plans.

    + Knowledge of power requirements, grounding, and bonding for telecommunications systems.

    + Familiarity with voice, data, and video network connectivity and support.

    + Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

    + Strong communication and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

    + Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces.

    Preferred / Desired Skills:

    + BICSI Certification (Technician, RCDD, or equivalent).

    + Experience working in DHS, USCIS, or other federal government environments.

    + Knowledge of cable management in secure areas (SCIFs) or controlled access facilities.

    + Experience with VoIP, PBX, and network rack integration.

    + Understanding of network topology and IP-based communication systems.

    Level & Additional Information:

    + Senior Level / SME: Expected to operate independently and lead multiple site teams or projects.

    + Must comply with all USCIS/DHS safety, security, and operational protocols.

    + Occasional travel to USCIS field offices or remote facilities may be required.
