Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S Coast Guard, Yard, Industrial Department, Electro Group in Baltimore MD. Responsibilities You will be responsible to work on a wide variety of marine craft. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: * Assisting on the maintenance, repair, and installation of various Electronic and circuit board systems related to the trade and various miscellaneous manufacturing and facility projects performed at the Yard. * Preforming work normal work and installs on communication systems and networks such as telephone, computer, switch gears, Intercommunication switch board. All Shipboard audio and voice announcing systems and alarm systems *Utilizing variety of Electrical and Electronic processes for job layout, work sequence, and material requirements. * Installing GPS systems, night vison systems, targeting systems, weapon systems and various other specialized mission equipment. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation. This position requires a Secret clearance. -Selectee subject to successful completion of pre-employment medical exam. -All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit. - This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment and random drug/alcohol test. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Qualifications Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREENOUT) 2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. 3. Use of Test Equipment: Electronics 4. Theory of Electronics 5. Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools -Electronics 6. Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) 7. Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods) National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
