    THE OPPORTUNITY

    The Environmental Manager will be responsible for the regulatory oversight and guidance for all environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves managing environmental permitting, conducting audits, leading sustainability projects, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record of driving environmental performance improvements. Additional duties include supervision of environmental engineers, and the environmental laboratory. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager.

    primary accountabilities:

    Ensuring the mill\u2019s operations are in compliance with all local, state, and federal air quality emissions by accurately engineering control solutions and reporting emissions data to regulatory agencies.

     

    Environmental Engineer supervision

    Lab supervision

    Managing and maintaining all environmental permitting (e.g., air, water, solid and hazardous waste, polychlorinated biphenyls, and asbestos) including acquisition and renewal of permits.

     

    Direct the collection of environmental data, preparation and accurate compliance reporting, to produce timely reports.

     

    Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasting, and ordering goods and services, partnering with accounts payable for assistance.

    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

    Technical

     

    Regulatory Compliance: In-depth understanding of local and national environmental laws, regulations, and policies (such as EPA or OSHA standards) to ensure organizational compliance.

     

    Environmental Management Systems: Knowledge and experience with developing, implementing, and managing environmental systems.

     

    Auditing and Assessment: Proficiency in conducting environmental audits, inspections, and impact assessments to identify risks and monitor performance.

     

    Data Analysis: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex environmental data (e.g., related to emissions, resource consumption, or waste) and use data collecting and monitoring software.

     

    Resource Management: Expertise in areas waste reduction, recycling programs, hazardous waste management, and resource efficiency improvements.

     

    Project Management: Strong project management skills for overseeing environmental initiatives, managing budgets, and coordinating resources to meet deadlines.

     

    Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey complex environmental concepts, prepare detailed reports, and effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders (employees, government agencies, senior management, and the public).

     

    Leadership and Collaboration: The ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a team, as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and corporate SMEs to integrate environmental goals across the organization.

     

    Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address environmental issues, anticipate risks, and develop innovative and practical solutions.

     

    Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail for monitoring progress, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing documentation accurately.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    experience required

    5 years in environmental roles, including demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

     

    Proven experience with environmental permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance.

    education

    Relevant Degree: Bachelor\u2019s degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering or related field, e.g., chemistry.

    Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)

     

    Registered Environmental Manager (REM)
