Work with Corporate Quality Assurance to ensure all raw materials and finished products conform to company and customer specifications.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in dairy science, food science, or other related field with two to three years related work experience in a food-processing environment. High school diploma or GED, and/or an AS degree in a science field with three to six years may provide an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Current certification as a Safe Quality Food practitioner, or willingness to become certified within 3 months of hire.

     

    Pay range: $65,000 - $80,000 DOE

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Supervises the Quality Control staff.

    As a Safe Quality Food practitioner:

    + Lead the development and implementation of Food Safety Fundamentals, Prerequisite Programs, Food Safety HACCP Plan.

    + Oversee development, implementation review and maintenance of the SQF system.

    + Take the appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF system.

    + Communicate to the relevant personnel all information to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF system.

    Duties & Responsibilities Continued:

    + Oversee Quality SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP and Biosecurity Programs.

    + Train new employees on cGMPs and assist in maintaining training files for each employee.

    + Act as technical representative for all in-house audits by customers or regulatory authorities.

    + Oversee Quality Control programs and functions, including laboratory testing and quality systems.

    + Schedule and/or test raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products for in-process or finished product requirements, or other tests as required in a timely manner.

    + Coordinate sampling and release of raw materials to ensure vendor compliance with specifications.

    + Review and approval of manufacturing batch records, and investigation of any process deviations that have occurred.

    + Responsible for the development and implementation of the plant environmental plan, testing and corrective actions.

    + Responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the plant Master Sanitation Plan and Schedule.

    + Responsible for data entry and verification of laboratory analyses in a timely manner.

    + Coordinate sampling and release of product after tests are completed for conformance to specifications.

    + Responsible for review and approval of finished product labels.

    + Assist in the investigation for any products that do not meet specifications.

    + Coordination of the disposition of off specification product.

    + Maintain customer product specifications and assist in evaluation of new customer specifications.

    + Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

    + Purchase and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.

    + Analyze and trend finished product data as a tool for evaluation of the current manufacturing process’s ability to meet finished product specifications.

    + Review and approval of any process or product specification change that is requested.

    + Responsible for effectively and professionally working with customers when required.

    + Responsible for ensuring Product Formulas and Batch Records are current, and are created as new products are developed.

    + Become proficient in the LIMS system of Quality Assurance.

    + Assist in the selection of products to fill customer orders assuring each customer receives products meeting their specifications.

    + Assist Corporate Quality Assurance in carrying out yearly Mock Recalls.

    + Assist in the resolution of customer complaints.

    + Develop and qualify new test methodologies as needed.

    + Provide support to R&D and technical support as needed.

    + Assist with inspection and testing of raw materials to assure vendor compliance with specifications and established procedures.

    + As required, inspect, test, and monitor current production in accordance with established procedures to assure compliance to required specifications; report findings to appropriate personnel for needed changes or adjustments.

    + Perform technical operations such as taking samples, examining/analyzing product, laboratory analyses, recording results, and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures

    + Assist with completion of reports requested by management.

    + Operate company vehicle as required.

    + All other duties as assigned.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    + General knowledge of processing, manufacturing and quality control procedures.

    + College math, including some knowledge of statistics.

    + Ability to learn and comprehend a wide variety of processing methods to assure compliance with established processing procedures.

    + Technical ability to conduct established product inspections and testing methods, including instrumentation testing for protein, moisture, fat, sediment, and microbiological test for standard plate count, in addition to other tests as required.

    + Ability to effectively communicate complex information, both orally and in writing.

    + Accuracy in filling out paperwork and recording data, including testing data.

    + Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with plant personnel, sales staff, customer service and other internal and external customers.

    + Ability to operate basic plant, lab, and office equipment, including computers, telephones, fax machines, and copiers.

    + Ability to remain calm and professional during peak periods of activities.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information when required.

    + Ability to drive a vehicle and maintain valid driver’s license.

    + Knowledge of organizational methods and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

    + Ability to work daily, weekends, and extended hours as necessary.

    + Ability to assist other work related areas, as required.

    + Ability to learn and operate windows environment software, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and MAPICS system.

    + Must be able to distinguish if food safety violations or product quality issues occur and resolve immediately or, if unable to resolve immediately, contact Plant Manager and/or the QC & Systems Manager.

    BASIC MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This job requires the capabilities to comprehend, analyze, and effectively communicate complex information; follow sequential inspection/testing lab procedures, record data and solve problems. The job requires the mental capabilities to perform college level math calculations. Ability to learn and use scientific data/methods related to microbiology, testing instrumentation and sanitation procedures. Ability to record data, use computers and handle multiple tasks.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:

    General food production, technical grade plant environment, including processing equipment/machinery, testing equipment, and laboratory conditions. Exposure to a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, the following: dust/powder, wet concrete floors, electrical equipment, confined spaces, moving equipment/machinery, ammonia, high pressure steam cleaning chemicals, heat, and seasonal weather conditions.
