    *Department Overview - Colon & Rectal Surgical Oncology:*

     

    The Colon & Rectal Surgical Oncology department at MD Anderson is a high-volume, fast-paced clinical setting with a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration.     *Experience *

    * New graduates will be considered; however, prior APP experience is preferred in a critical care environment or surgical experience.

    * RNFA for APRNs is a plus but not required.

    *KEY FUNCTIONS*

    * Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new, consult, and follow-up patients

    * Collaborate with supervising physicians and fellows to develop and implement care plans

    * Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab work

    * Document clinical encounters clearly via dictation or manual entry

    * Perform minor outpatient procedures (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suture removal)

    * Manage pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients

    * Provide thorough patient and family education

    * Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams across the institution

    * Participate in education, research, and administrative initiatives as needed

    * Other duties as assigned

    *Qualifications:*

    *Education*

    *REQUIRED:* Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

    *Licensure/Certification*

    *REQUIRED:* Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

    *PREFERRED:* American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

    *Experience *

     

    New graduates will be considered; however, prior APP experience is preferred in a critical care environment or surgical experience. RNFA for APRNs is a plus but not required.

     

    *EDUCATION*

    * Required: Master's Degree Accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.

    *LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS*

    * Required: PAC - Physician Assistant Certifica Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Upon Hire and

    * Required: PA - Physician Assistant Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners Upon Hire and

    * Required: MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Upon Hire and

    * Required: BLS - Basic Life Support American Heart Association (AHA). Upon Hire and
