Job Description Summary
As a Senior Controls Engineer in the Component and Development Test (CDT) facility, you will be part of a dynamic lab test environment. You will collaborate with engineers, customers, and technicians to execute design validation testing. This role encompasses new installations, expansions, upgrades, commissioning, and maintenance. You will need strong technical knowledge, extensive experience, and excellent interpersonal skills to solve issues effectively. As a design team member, you will manage controls activities onsite at the Greenville Technology Lab, which houses various test labs for turbine development, from small component testing to full-scale, full-speed, full-load heavy-duty gas turbines.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
+ **Controls Management:**
+ Actively manage controls activities for CDT facilities, including new installations, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on turbine and auxiliary systems.
+ **Collaboration** :
+ Work with test engineers and design team members to plan, implement, and execute controls needs for customer tests across CDT facilities.
+ **Design & Specification** :
+ Create designs for control systems, specifying hardware components such as PLCs, sensors, motors, and safety devices.
+ Write technical specifications for configuration and procurement of process control sensors, servo systems, and machine controls.
+ **Documentation** :
+ Prepare and maintain project documentation, including electrical drawings, instrument diagrams, and input/output lists.
+ **Coding & Implementation** :
+ Write and implement code.
+ Understand PLC ladder logic and navigate through ladder rungs while troubleshooting.
+ **Interpretation & Compliance** :
+ Read and interpret electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams.
+ Ensure correct installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and maintenance practices are followed.
+ **Technical Expertise** :
+ Provide technical expertise to service support, technicians, and operators.
+ Be accountable for on-time schedule performance, project milestones, customer deliverables, and compliance with regulations and standards.
+ Ensure all activities are carried out safely, complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
+ **Consultation & Reviews** :
+ Provide expert consultation on complex projects.
+ Prepare and present design reviews.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or Associate’s degree and equivalent experience in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant equipment installation/commissioning.
+ 8+ years of experience in controls engineering
+ Proven experience in designing and implementing control systems in industrial applications
Eligibility Requirements:
+ 100% onsite in Greenville Test facilities
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future
Desired Characteristics
+ **Expert Level**
+ Acts as project manager and mentor on complex projects.
+ **Technical Skills:**
+ Experience with RX3i control systems, Python, C coding, LINUX (preferable).
+ Experience with MarkVI, Mark VIe, Mark V control systems (preferable).
+ Experience with Gas Turbine Driver Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems.
+ Experience with communications protocols including OPC, Modbus, Profibus, EGD, and Profinet.
+ Software proficiency in Wonderware HMI, Proficy Machine Edition, CIMPLICITY Graphics, and AutoCAD.
+ Ability to understand and implement controls software
+ Strong computer skills
+ **Knowledge:**
+ Knowledge of compressible flow relationships, valve sizing, and basic process engineering.
+ Familiarity with power distribution up to 15 kV.
+ Knowledge of electrical codes and standards that apply to large-scale energy systems worldwide (i.e., IEC, UL, NEC, BDEW, CEI, NESC, etc.).
+ **Soft Skills:**
+ Wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
+ Strong analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
+ Ability to work independently.
**For U.S. based candidates only,** for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, The base pay range for this position is $111,200.00 - $185,400.00 USD per year.
The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 15% variable incentive performance bonus.
*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
