    Job Description

    Lead Diesel Technician

     

    Our Skagway Transportation team is currently seeking a Lead Diesel Technician to perform preventative maintenance and service on our fleet of diesel engine motorcoaches and related components. In addition to hands-on technical work, this role serves as a mentor and trainer within our shop facilities, helping to foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

    _Responsibilities:_

    + Routinely, performs preventative maintenance and safety inspections

    + Proficient in the diagnoses and repair electrical systems, refrigeration systems, pneumatic systems, brakes and drive trains.

    + Plans, coaches and facilitates skill development of technicians through task assignment and work planning.

    + Monitors shop work quality and coach technicians when needed.

    + Cleans and maintains maintenance facilities and areas according to established Company standards.

    + Applies federal, state, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures to all tasks.

    + Maintains maintenance records in the appropriate logs.

    + Works with Shop Foreman planning day to day shop operations. Seasonally responsible for the oversight, training, and direction of seasonal employees.

    + Works with Shop Foreman for annual maintenance planning, scheduling and budgeting.

    + Performs maintenance duties required by departmental supervision.

    _Requirements:_

    + This job normally requires a level of experience and knowledge in motor coach maintenance equivalent to that which would be acquired through the completion of an Associate’s degree or some college or completion of technical training or certification and two years’ experience. Directly related work experience which demonstrates technical knowledge may be considered in lieu of formal education.

    + CFC and brake inspector certification is required.

    + Demonstrated experience supervising employees, seasonal and fulltime. Effective as a mentor and trainer in shop.

    + Current Alaska Driver’s license with Commercial Driver's License endorsement required. (May be obtained through Company training course). Suitable driving record required.

    + Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will become a part of the random drug test pool.

    + Must be eligible to work in the United States.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Proficiency in the use of com _puter business applications, with working knowledge of computerized maintenance inventory and laptop diagnostics._

    + _Ability to prioritize work, establish and meet deadlines, maintain an attention to accuracy and details while working in a team environment._

    + _Ability to communicate clearly verbally and written to employees and management._

    + _Proficiency in reading electric and pneumatic schematics, maintenance literature, and parts diagrams._

    + _Ability to prioritize work, meet_ deadlines, maintains an attention to accuracy and detail, while working in a team or group environment.

    _Operation Notes:_

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk, climb and work in elevated areas 20 feet off the ground, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, to use a computer to research and enter information, and to keep accurate logs of work performed.

    + The employee will frequently lift and or move up to 60 pounds and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; vehicle fuels and fluids, refrigerant, and maintenance cleaning solutions.

    + The work is performed in a typical maintenance shop environment during company established work hours and workdays.

    + The shift schedule may vary. Weekend, holiday and overtime work may be required according to business needs.
