We anticipate the need for one or more Radiation Protection Specialist - Chemistry to be located at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in Monticello, MN. This will be under IBEW Local 160. The starting rate of pay for this position can range from $35.26 to $64.11. The posting will post from October 22, 2025, to November 4, 2025. Placement in the progression will be commensurate with the individuals experience.
Summary:
Performs chemistry and radiochemistry sampling and analysis to support Technical Specifications, the TRM, Regulatory, and Site requirements. Independently perform most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems, and obtains supervisory approval of proposed plans for projects.
This job requires the support of a rotating shift schedule, 365 days a year. Individuals are required to support the emergency response organization.
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Performs chemistry and radiochemistry sampling and analysis, and may perform radiation surveys.
+ Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in chemistry and radiochemistry techniques, procedures and criteria to meet all regulatory requirements.
+ Provides guidance or assistance to Plant Operations, Nuclear Engineering, Plant Maintenance, Chemistry Supervision.
+ Provides technical guidance to other Nuclear Chemistry Technicians and provide support for process quality improvement initiatives.
+ Implements a variety of chemistry and radiochemistry projects, and coordinates the analysis of technical data to identify requirements.
Requirements:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent required
+ Individual shall possess ANSI 18.1 Radiation Protection qualifications.
+ Previous experience in nuclear power, chemistry or Navy Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) experience is preferred.
+ Chemical or Nuclear engineering degree preferred.
A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
All Radiation Protection Specialist and Chemistry Specialist hired on or after January 1, 2017, shall qualify and participate in Fire Brigade. If a permanent medical condition is diagnosed which prohibits the employee from qualifying and participating in the Fire Brigade, meetings will be held between the Company and the Union to achieve mutual resolution.

Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $35.26 to $64.11 per hour
