    DESIGNER - PLANT Vogtle 3&4

     

    The position is part of a team that is responsible for the development, review, and implementation of design modifications for Southern Nuclear at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant units 3&4 following construction. Team responsibilities include development, review, implementation of Vogtle units 3&4 design modifications and supporting the configuration management objectives for Vogtle 3&4 engineering.

    SUMMARY OF POSITION DUTIES

    Duties include the development of design change configuration documentation for use in Vogtle 3&4 design change products and assessing configuration changes for impacts to design and licensing requirements and other documentation. Depending on complexity, the incumbent may lead the preparation of design change activities.

     

    The incumbent will also be required to perform field walkdowns in an industrial environment for design constructability and interface with craft personnel for resolution of possible field installation issues.

     

    The type of documentation involved includes single line, diagrams, elementary, logic, wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, general arrangement drawings, instrument indexes, setpoint diagrams, tubing isometrics, cable and component data bases, vendor drawings, manuals, piping and instrumentation diagrams, piping isometrics, structural support details, equipment layout, and foundation. To accomplish this task, the incumbent will work closely with engineers and other designer peers.

     

    The position will be filled at an exempt level commensurate with the candidate qualifications.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Education Requirements:

    + High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

    + Technical Associate degree in computer aided design preferred

    Experience Requirements:

    + Design experience involving the use of 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) is preferred

    + AutoCad or Microstation software experience is required

    + 3D CAD experience is considered a plus

    + Nuclear power plant design experience preferred

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    + Sound knowledge of standards, principles and practices related to designing, drafting, assembly, and bill of material management is preferred

    + Ability to review and interpret civil, mechanical, electrical and/or industrial digital control design documentation is preferred

    + Ability to review and apply design standards and requirements related to developed products is preferred

    + Working knowledge in cross functional disciples (electrical, mechanical, civil & I&C) is preferred

    + Working knowledge of automated cable routing databases is preferred

    + Working knowledge of a nuclear plant modification and implementation process is preferred

    + Knowledge of nuclear plant systems, structures and components is preferred

    + Demonstrated skills in developing modification documentation is preferred

    + Demonstrated effective organization and work planning skills required

    + Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required

    + Must be able to work in plant environment having varying temperatures, humidity, noise, dust and radiation
