Medical Assistants assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Additionally, they serve as the lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
The position offers opportunities for growth, with a clear career ladder from Medical Assistant to Medical Assistant, Expert. A starting pay rate of $17.64/hour for Medical Assistant is offered, based on experience and qualifications.
Occasional Travel to our Children's North Satellite location is required
Responsibilities:
+ Collaborates with care team to improve patient access, reduce emergency visits, and decrease readmissions.
+ Conducts telephonic outreach for post-hospital follow-ups, medication reviews, and care coordination.
+ Makes referrals and addresses discharge needs.
+ Supports population health initiatives and gap closure.
+ Provides health education and promotes patient engagement through wellness guidance and motivational interviewing.
+ Manages clinical tasks, assigns workflow, and mentors staff.
+ Oversees Epic Care as a super user and assists with department improvements.
+ Handles medical records per HIPAA regulations.
+ Performs front office duties including scheduling, insurance verification, and chart management.
+ Prepares patient rooms and maintains infection control.
+ Assists patients, collects specimens, takes vitals, and relays provider instructions.
+ Conducts phlebotomy, EKGs, and clinic procedures.
+ Ensures regulatory compliance and strict confidentiality.
+ Administers injectable medication and vaccines under physician supervision.
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or equivalent hospital program, or Successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience, or Two years of direct patient care experience required.
+ Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.
+ Successfully complete the UPMC preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members.
+ Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks.
+ Previous Pediatric experience preferredLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 31 / Act 33 / Act 34 / Act 73 with renewal
